Delaware Tech's Vision for our Energy Future
Why Energy Management Now?
The role energy plays in our economy, security, environment and health has never been clearer or more important than it is today. Energy management and the use of renewable energy are critical given the dramatic escalation of energy costs, risk of vulnerability with foreign oil, and the problems fossil fuel reliance creates for the environment and our health. Delaware Tech’s new Applied Energy Education offerings are in response to the need for energy management professionals and technicians who will maximize energy efficiency, increase utilization of renewable energy systems, decrease negative environmental impact, and reduce energy costs.
The Applied Energy Program builds on the existing resources of our nationally accredited HVAC-R, electrical and engineering technology programs. Integrated credit and continuing education offerings across the state are planned to meet an array of educational and training needs for entry level and current professionals and technicians who work in the commercial, industrial, and residential sectors, as well as educate consumers. On-campus demonstration labs of renewable technologies will provide hands-on training and living examples of green building operation. The program offerings reflect national research on energy services careers and curriculum recommendations and complement the University of Delaware’s energy research and policy analysis, which sets the stage for the next step – education and training to apply solar, wind, and other renewable energy technology in an expanded market.
