Delaware Tech 2008 Summer Camps

The Camps program represents one of the fastest growing initiatives at the Stanton/Wilmington Campus. Our signature program “Camp on Campus” allows children to explore a variety of enrichment activities throughout the summer while experiencing the college environment. Each program has been designed to be educational and entertaining and is staffed by experienced educators and camp counselors.

Camp-On-Campus for ages 5-12
What is Camp-on-Campus?
Students ages 5-12 join us at the Stanton or Wilmington campus for indoor classroom activities, outdoor athletic games, and afternoon field trips! Limitless on campus activities give your child a rewarding learning experience at Delaware Tech while guaranteeing a summer filled with excitement and fun! Afternoon field trips included in price. Extended Care Option available.
(All five year olds must have completed kindergarten)

Academic Camps for ages 9-12

American Sign Language Camp
Campers will increase their communication skills by learning basic American Sign Language. Knowledge of sign language will be developed through hands on activities and lessons about the unique culture of Deaf individuals.

Computer Kids Camp
Using state of the art college computer facilities, campers will participate in various computer-related activities using kid-friendly websites and Microsoft Office applications. Practice typing skills, develop a PowerPoint presentation, create digital art, and learn
about Internet safety. Campers will leave camp with a list of kid-safe websites for them to explore further on their own.

Computer Games Challenge Camp
Compete against your peers using various kid-safe website based games. Also learn how to create simple games and puzzles using websites and Microsoft Office applications, such as Word and PowerPoint.

Games Mazes & Puzzles Camp
Find out how intriguing math can be when learning through games, mazes, and mind boggling puzzles. Enjoy a week of focusing on problem-solving techniques while working in teams and individually.

Japanese Journey Camp
Embark on a journey through the exquisite culture and language of Japan! Master the basic language skills while exploring the impact of Japanese culture on world history.

Science Camp - Rocks & Gems
Explore the wonderful world of geology, learning and searching for the earth’s most precious gems and rocks. Hands on activities, science experiments and much more!

Science Camp - Stars & Planets
Travel through the galaxy learning about the solar system and
beyond. Conduct experiments in actual college science labs and engage with expert guest speakers though out the week.

Speaking Spanish
Spend your week speaking Spanish with your peers! Instructors will utilize creative teaching techniques to help you learn the basics of
the Spanish language.

Wonders of Web Design Camp
Campers will study web design and the creation of websites. Websites will be evaluated for valid content and good design techniques. Internet safety will also be discussed. Campers will create a website using a free online service, and will then try their hand at HTML coding.

Young Poets Camp
Learn to write like a star, shining in the luminescent sky in this
Young Poets Camp. Students will write and perform poetry, including for the page, concrete poetry, haiku, slam, free verse, lyrics for
music, and much more!

Young Writer Camp
Unleash your creativity in this writing clinic. Experienced teachers
will introduce creative ways to add sparkle to writing projects. Work
in the college’s computer lab, transferring hand written creative
pieces to word processing software.

Specialty Camps for ages 9-12

Art/Illustration Camp
Develop your artistic talents. Enjoy drawing, painting, crafts and clay molding in this camp. Campers will improve their artistic abilities
while having a great time!

Babysitting Camp
Learn the ages and stages of child development and discuss age appropriate activities for each stage. Babysitting safety and health issues will be discussed.

Cooking Camp
Gain experience creating entrees and baking desserts. Become an expert at measuring, estimating, and reading recipes and impress everyone with your kitchen savvy. Each camp covers different topics and recipes.

Creative Crafts I - Jewelry Making Camp
Be creative! Show your style and learn to make your own jewelry. Campers will design and create their own jewelry with the assistance of an accomplished jewelry artisan. All materials and tools provided.

Creative Crafts II – Scrapbooking, Crochet and More… Camp
Capture your most cherished memories through creative expression. Create scrapbooks, crochet designs and more in this creative crafts learning camp! All materials are provided, just bring your favorite pictures and memorabilia.

Curious Creatures Camp
Learn and meet some of natures most curious creatures, including reptiles, amphibians, and insects. Class activities include internet research, group activities, guest speakers, field trips and discussions. Be prepared to introduce yourself when they join us on campus for
our camp end creature party!

Middle School Musical Camp I & II
Be like Troy and Gabriella and star in Delaware Tech’s Middle
School Musical! Work with acting and voice coaches to develop
your skills! You and your supporting cast of characters will perform a play on your final camp day. All are welcomed to attend!
(A different musical will be performed each camp)

Photography Camp
Campers will be introduced to various picture-taking techniques as they photograph people, places and things. Hands-on-activities and lessons will enable campers to create a detailed story board. Class materials (including a camera) will be provided.

Young Inventor Camp
Do you like to invent new things? Have lots of ideas? Then bring your greatest ideas and make them reality. Decide how you would design something, how you can patten it, and market it! Then put your invention on display to win the Young Inventor’s Trophy!

Sports Camps for ages 9-12

Basketball Camp I
Improve basic basketball skills focusing on dribbling, rebounding, passing, and foul shooting. Put all these new skills to use in the
camp end basketball competition!

Basketball Camp II
Improve upon your basic skills with some advanced techniques! Coaches will test your skills during team drills and competitive
games played daily. *Basketball Camp I not required to enroll in Basketball Camp II

Cheerleading Camp
Learn the basics of cheerleading! Activities include dance, cheers, jumps, and making spirit posters. All these activities will be included in an end of the week performance.

Golf Camp
Improve your stance, grip and swing! Professional golf instructors
will guide you through the basics of playing the game, develop your technique and demonstrate how much fun golf can be!

Rock Climbing Camp
Under the supervision of experienced climbers, learn the basics of climbing, including a detailed lesson on climbing safety. Campers
will spend two days learning the basics at the Delaware Tech gym and spend three days at University of Delaware climbing up the rock walls! All equipment provided.

Soccer Camp
Improve soccer skills focusing on, offensive & defensive drills, goal keeping and teamwork skills.

Sweat and Jump Fitness Camp
A team oriented, motivational, and fun approach to health and fitness. Campers will be introduced to nutrition education, movement and
play in non-competitive games and outdoor recreation, fitness activities, improve muscle flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, and endurance.

Volleyball Camp
Learn and practice basic volleyball techniques, including, spiking, blocking, setting the ball, serving and bumping.

Career Camps for ages 13-15

Aviation Camp
Camp participants will explore, discover and learn about aircraft and what makes them fly. Hands-on experiments will teach concepts of flight, air properties, wing, thrust, and drag. Campers will tour aircraft facilities and interact with pilots and other individuals in the aviation field.

Bank It! Camp
The Bank It! Camp will introduce the world of finance and banking. Visit various financial instiutions to interact with professionals and learn more about career options. Don't miss visiting the bank vault!

Beauty Camp
Learn how to make people look and feel beautiful. Instruction in all techniques including hair sculpture, nails, facials and more!

Blast Off Rocket Camp
Learn about the dynamics of rocketry! Be part of the growing sensation of building and launching rockets. End the week by launching your rocket into the sky!

Boot Camp
Like the toughest marines and most precise air force pilot,
experience what it’s like to go through boot camp! Test your will and your skill with military professionals who will push you to your physical and mental limit!

Comic Book Illustration Camp
Do you love comic books? Do you like to draw? Come to comic
book illustration camp and learn the basics of comic book design including lettering, inking, coloring and plot design. A professional comic book illustrator will answer your questions and improve your technique!

Cooking Camp
Put on your chef hat, it’s time to create appetizing entrees and delicious desserts. Work with experienced Delaware Tech Chefs to master the basics of cooking and how a culinary kitchen operates!

Counselor In Training Camp
Training includes basic instruction in first aid, conflict resolution,
peer mediation, activity management, and leadership skills. Training
is offered in 2 blocks: I - Basic and II - Advanced. Upon successful completion of each block, the Delaware Tech Counselor-In-Training Certification will be awarded. Fee: $350 Block I / $350 Block II

Crime Solving by NUMB3RS Camp
Inspired by actual cases, Numb3rs through mathematics provides unexpected revelations and answers to the most perplexing questions. See how math impacts your world. “Numb3rs” is a trademark of CBS.

CSI/Crime Scene Investigation Camp
Learn the importance of securing a crime scene, searching for clues, and process the evidence collected. Put your knowledge to work and solve the crime!

Health & Science Camp
Learn about careers in the health and science fields as you tour the campus technology labs, and interact with guest speakers from area companies.

International Camp
Spend the week exploring the many cultures that make up of the globe! From South American History to Asian Cuisine to the Climate of the African Safari! Listen to guest speakers, see historical artifacts and taste the delicacies of countries around the globe!

Make It! Manufacturing Camp
This camp will introduce the fields of manufacturing and engineering! Design and build a project using labs at the college and tour an area manufacturing company. This camp is co-sponsored by Delaware Tech, Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, the Delaware Manufacturing Association, and DEMEP.

Mind Your Own Business Camp
Do you want to learn what it takes to create and run a successful business? This camp is designed to build the skills, capabilities, and confidence of prospective and existing entrepreneurs by incorporating hands on learning activities, guest speakers, and field trips to local businesses.

Motors & Rotors Automotive Camp
Learn about what goes on “under the hood.” Work in the college’s state-of-the-art automotive bays. Explore the high tech equipment
and computer instrumentation that make this profession a terrific career choice. Field trips will be made to car plants and automotive dealerships.

Nuts & Bolts Build It Camp
This camp provides hands on experiences related to building model structures and roads. Learn about various career opportunities and develop an individual project from conceptual stage to final product.

Science & Technology Preview (STeP) Camp
This camp is open to female students entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. This camp introduces women to non-traditional career opportunities in the chemical process industry. This camp is co-sponsored by the Center for Advancement of Process Technology. Fee: FREE

Sports Broadcasting Camp
That ball is outta here! Are you interested in announcing a football or baseball game on live radio someday? Sports Broadcasting Camp
will cover broadcasting, introduce you to broadcasting professionals and a behind the scenes tour of the Blue Rocks Stadium.

Technology for Teens Camp
Do you enjoy working with computers? This camp will explore career opportunities in technology such as identity theft, information assurance assurance and other scenarios that arise when using technology.

Action! TV Production Camp
3-2-1-ACTION! This camp provides an opportunity to see what goes into making a television program, from the camera-work to the sound recording. Find the real excitement that goes on behind the scenes
at a television studio.

Sibling Discount Policy
Camps 2008

Sibling Discount Details:

• When two or more children are enrolled in the same week for camp; parents can apply for a sibling discount
• In order to apply for the sibling discount, parents or guardians must submit a sibling discount application
• The application will require address and demographic information and parents or guardians must sign the application validating that the children are siblings

Sibling Discount Fee Structure:

• The available discount is as follows:
  
  • First child is at full fee rate of $170 plus any extended care or transportation option fees
  • Second child enrolled (in same camp week) will be provided a rate of $155 (a $15 discount) plus any extended care or transportation option fees, upon receipt of a sibling discount application
  • If a third child or more is enrolled (in same camp week as first and second sibling), the same rate of $155 will be applied plus any extended care or transportation fees, also pending submission of the sibling discount application
    

Additional details:

• The discount can be received weekly as long as siblings continue to enroll together each week; the discount is only applicable if siblings are enrolled together each week
• If a registration is received via fax or mail for a set of siblings
  to attend camp; the camp secretary will follow up by sending the sibling discount application to the family
• The parent or guardian requesting the discount must return
  the sibling discount application prior to or with the final payment made for camp fees
• Applications cannot be prorated or provided for prior camp years
• If applying for a scholarship, the sibling discount does not apply.
