What criteria are used to determine membership?
Academic excellence is the primary hallmark of PHI THETA KAPPA. Students who have completed at least twelve (12) credit hours leading to an associate degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or above, and must enjoy full rights of citizenship are invited to join PHI THETA KAPPA..
How do I become a member ?
At the Wilmington Campus, eligible Alpha Zeta Kappa students are invited to join at the beginning of the fall and spring semester. Students receive a letter from the advisor, Mrs. MacPherson that delineates the cost of membership, how to process the application, and the deadline for joining.
Can a part time student become a member?
Yes, as long as the student meets the criteria.
What is required to maintain membership?
After induction, members must maintain a GPA of 3.00
Is participation a requirement?
Participation in chapter activities is not a requirement for membership. Phi Theta Kappa's Constitution requires only that a member make and maintain a certain grade point average. However, you will certainly want to consider the benefits of participating in the many programs available through Phi Theta Kappa membership.
What are the benefits of joining Phi Theta Kappa?
PHI THETA KAPPA members receive a membership certificate, the privilege of wearing fraternity key, subscriptions to fraternity publications, transfer scholarship opportunities and the opportunity to apply for Gustwhite Scholarships and be nominated to the Academic All-American Team. At graduation PHI THETA KAPPA members may wear the fraternity graduation stole and have the fraternity seal and stamp affixed to their college diploma.
What is the cost of membership?
Membership dues are determined at the beginning of the fall semester. The cost of membership is applicable only once. As long as you keep the minimum cum, you can be a member for many years.
When can I expect to receive my membership certificate and key?
Approximately one month after the induction ceremony, you will receive your key, membership certificate, and fraternity publications.
When does Alpha Zeta Kappa meet?
Typically Phi Theta Kappa meets on the third Thursday of the month at 11:30 in the Southeast Building , Conference Room D. Check the Alpha Zeta Kappa website for current meeting's time and dates http://www.alphazetakappa.org/ .
How do I stay current on the activities of Alpha Zeta Kappa?
Once we process your application, you will receive a, monthly newsletter from our officers. What is an Induction Ceremony?
Alpha Zeta Kappa chapter has two induction ceremonies. The fall induction ceremony is at our chapter meeting. The spring induction ceremony is usually held at the Wilmington Campus on a Thursday in April at 11:30 in the Conference Center of Southeast Building. A reception for all PTK members immediately follows the ceremony.
I want to wear the PTK stole and tassel at my graduation. How do accomplish this?
PTK members who are graduating may wear the Honor Society's gold stole and tassel at graduation. Members may purchase the stole and tassel by paying a fee (determined each year) to the Wilmington Business Office. Eligible students will receive a letter from the chapter in February delineating the graduation process.
How do I make sure I am identified as a PTK member in the graduation booklet?
Mrs. MacPherson will collate the names from past induction ceremonies. However, if your last name has changed since you were inducted into PTK, or if you were inducted at another campus and will graduate from the Stanton/Wilmington Campus, you must contact Mrs. MacPherson macphers@college.dtcc.edu by March 15 in the year of graduation.
