Introduction
Sigma Kappa Delta was formed under the auspices of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society for four-year institutions. Sigma Kappa Delta was created on April 21st, 1996; in Chicago. IL. The organization was incorporated in 1996 in the state of Missouri as a non-for-profit, educational entity. Its central purpose is to confer distinction upon outstanding students of the English language and literature in undergraduate studies. Sigma Kappa Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature.

The name Sigma Kappa Delta comes from the greek letters representing the first letter of each of the words that come from the official motto, "Sincerity, Knowledge, and Design". The official colors of the society are green and gold; the official plant is the English ivy. The official seal can be found in all official documents of the society.

Through the work of chapters on the campuses of two year institutions throughout the United States, Sigma Kappa Delta provides exceptional student opportunities for advancing the study of language and literature, for developing skills in creative and analytical writing, and for meeting other outstanding scholars and professionals in the discipline of English.
