Borland C 5.0 Install Notes
Initial Steps
- Must start with a clean NT install, no NT policies, no domain login
- Do a snapshot with sysdiff
- run \setup\bc5\setup.exe
- take defaults
- Restart
- edit bcw5.ini to point default dir to f:\ (DefaultDesktopDir)
- Run BC5, set prefs to taste (no backup, etc)
- Snapshot /diff it
Notes
- \bc5\script\default.kbp must be set to "change" permissions during install
- \bc5\bin\bcconfig.bcw must be "change" perms unless you first run BC5
as an administrator
- Target (DefaultDesktopDir) specified in bcw5.ini does not have to exist!
- C:\$$PIP$$.$$$ needs to be able to be created during a TLINK of a 16-bit
code. Just creating this file is not
good enough. It will delete it. Looks like if we set it to RWX and forbid
delete rights, we can be saved. BTW, the only thing it looks like is written
to this file is a copyright line for TLINK :-( However --- looks like that
filename is written as a literal in bcws16.dll and bcws32.dll. A simple
binary edit to a "safer" drive?!?! ;-)
