Maynard Most Install Notes
Reference Web Sites
Observations (first install attempt)
- Appears to understand NT and vendor site mentions some NT systems do not
allow writing to C: and direct setting of MFWTEMP to another location. Good.
- Uses a 16-bit database engine. Yack.
- Arrggh, install program wants to modify autoexec.bat. Idiots. Wants to
add c:\MPS\BIN to path.
- Installs icons in Common Start Menu:
- MOST for Windows (C:\mps\unvmfw\mostwin.exe)
- System Administrator (c:\mps=unvsys\sysadmin.exe)
- When running it as a user, with path set correctly, brings up a
database security box and errors out with "Can't find the language DLL
(wl50??.dll). It then hangs. Same error occurs if run under Administrator. In fact, the same error happens when running Sys Admin program as Administrator. There are no files named wl50*.dll on the system. However, after a reboot,
it worked. :(
- Program will not "connect to database server" if run as user. It will as
Administrator. Permissions problems of course...
- All data updates seem to happen inside the database. Maybe we better put it on the server.
- *.pbd files appear to need to be r/w
Second Install Attempt
- Installing to server...
- Adds/Edits an ODBC.INI file in %systemroot% which we'll have to
worry about.
- Does some stuff at reboot which we need to worry about (in sysdiff phase)
- Next attempt should NOT let it edit autoexec.bat file
Third Install Attempt
- Log on as Administrator
- Map network drive (net use g: \\apache\nt)
- mkdir c:\sysdiff
- cd \sysdiff
- sysdiff /snap snapshot
- Run setup.exe on Maynard CD
- Install Maynard
- Choose G:\apps\mps for install directory
- Do *NOT* make any changes to autoexec.bat. We can do that in a launcher
batch file later
- Let Setup restart computer
- Log on as Administrator, open cmd window, go to c:\sysdiff
- Move "Maynard Productivity Solutions" folder from Common Start Menu
to profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
- sysdiff /diff /c:"Maynard Most" snapshot most.sd
After doing above, tried first attempt at installing the tutorial.
- Hmmm, default suggested dir is c:\mps (same directory as the program).
I'll try installing to g:\apps\mps and see...
- Wants to add autoexec.bat entries again, and reboot too. Same as main
program. Sigh...
- Only adds junk to mps\mfwtutr directory
- Icon added points to mfwtutor.hlp file in above directory.
- Sysdiff doesn't show much except for above icon being created.
