Visual Basic 6 Install Notes
Lots of random notes about installing Visual Basic 6
Reference web sites
Observations
- First attempt failed miserably. It requires a reboot and
worse, after a reboot, more user input choices. For example, it prompts you
to install MSDN (perhaps if we do that first?). After sysdiff'ing it after
the reboot and applying to a fresh machine, it failed to run later.
- Perhaps the VB Learning Edition would be better....
- After reboot, it "runonce"s via key "VS98_Setup_Wizard"
c:\temp\vs60wiz.exe /runonce /reboot /location:D:. This seems
to just run setup to prompt for installation of MSDN. Cool...
- Some other changes occur after reboot. Hopefully just applying the
sysdiff and letting those changes kick in after our install reboot will be
enough.
- yes, seems to have worked!
Installation sysdiff Package Creation
- sysdiff snap it
- Install, do not reboot
- sysdiff /diff it
- Save package
Installation script
- Apply package
- Remove runonce key (VS98_Setup_Wizard)
- Install icons
- (Ensure a second administrator reboot happens during script install)
