Hobbies

Looking for something fun to do besides wasting your life staring at your computer screen and surfing web pages? Here are some hobby ideas with a local bent.

Loads of info about their club as well as local HAM radio. Web site has been kept up-to-date fairly well. Also be sure to check out some local HAM user web pages at: W3HB | W3HCF | WA3GAY | WB3FJJ | WB3LGC . [reviewed: 15feb97]

Into bird watching? This site has a plethora of information about birding, where to go, and what to look for. If this is your cup of tea, this site won't leave you disappointed at all. [reviewed: 15feb97]

Ah, my kind of hobby! The site is showing some signs of aging and needs to be updated however. [reviewed: 15feb97]

The little state of Delaware is pretty huge in the skating world. This site contains all you'd ever want to know about the ice skating scene in Delaware, including links to Olympic sites up through the year 2002 (which will be in Utah, something I just learned from visiting the site).  The clubs newsletter is published on-line as well as past newsletters. Sports and other physically fun stuff

Fishing

Nice pagefrom Lewes.  Information on charter trips, as well as a weekly fishing reports from various ship captains. Find out what is really happpeninng and book a trip out into the bay or ocean. Actually, come to think of it, why are you wasting time on the web reading about fishing when you could be out there doing the real thing? [reviewed: 15feb97]

Another good resource for local fishing. Includes fishing reports, listings of places to fish (saltwater and freshwater) and types of fish you can (hopefully) be expected to catch! [reviewed: 15feb97]

Running

While viewing the pages of the various Harrier clubs, it becomes obvious that too much running must deprive the brain of vital oxygen. These guys are tripping, albeit slowly and on foot. [reviewe: 16feb97]

I live in Pike Creek, the land of ten-cent millionaires. Really strange place. People will get all dressed up in high-priced jogging suits and Nike running shoes in order to strut their stuff in front of the neighbors. However, if they need something from the grocery store, they'll hop into their over-priced German-made automobile and drive up the street to the Acme.

Water Sports

This page has been around for years, and is still being updated and kept fresh. Loads of info about kayaking and white-water rafting. White-water in Delaware? Who would have guessed. [reviewed: 15feb97]

Golf

What is it about golf? I sometimes sit on the back patio which overlooks the 10th hole at Three Little Bakers Golf Course. I am constantly amazed by all of the lazy yuppies that think they are getting exercise by renting a golf cart and knocking a little ball around. On a rare occasion, you can see someone walking the course. However, their clubs are in a bag with two wheels of course. About once a year you can see someone actually carrying their clubs around, and that is my father. These people are probably the same folks that go jogging in the morning in designer jogging suits.

If you really must play golf, check out the above links. Loads of info about numerous Delaware courses. If you play TLB, don't be a wimp. Walk it. If my 63-year-old father can do it, so can you.

Bicycling

Not much web wise for real bikers. Perhaps it's because they'd rather be peddling somewhere rather than making up web pages. The above link is info about a mailing list for Delaware bicyclists. Speaking of bicycling, ever ride the bike route 1? A great idea, but not executed very well. For whatever reason, a the route is very poorly marked in numerous areas. Many turns in the route are not marked, leaving you riding for miles wondering where you missed a turn.

Sitting on Your Bum

The best sport is the one you can watch and not participate in, right?!

A list of things to sit around and watch in Delaware.

Last and certainly not least, our very own Blue Rocks web site. Watching the Blue Rocks play is a cherished past-time for local folks. If you're just visiting, try and catch a game. It's absolutely magic. The web site is great too. Even during the off-season, it's kept up-to-date with the latest news from the Quarry. [reviewed: 15feb97]
