Online Student Orientation

Delaware Tech online courses are a learning option for independent, self-motivated students. They are for students who have little time to come on campus for courses or who have travel constraints. Course offerings are related to the College technology programs. They are of the same quality and rigor as on-campus courses. They are most appropriate for you if you like to learn on your own and if you have at least moderate computer skills. You will need access to a computer and an Internet provider. These minimum hardware/software requirements specify the technology you must have:

Online courses are delivered entirely in a web-based format. The College provides the web-site. There is a course web page, instructor and student e-mail and discussion sessions. Instructors post the coursework, including assignments to the course web page. Students participate in electronic discussions and complete assignments. Testing is online as well. Course materials and assignments are available on the course web page 24 hours a day.

E-Learning Self-Assessment Survey

Congratulations on your decision to consider taking an E-Learning class at Delaware Tech.  You may not be sure if an E-Learning class if right for you. That’s normal; not every student is comfortable taking a class in an E-Learning format. Take the self-assessment below to determine if you are a right fit.

Yes No I have access to a computer and the necessary hardware and software to participate in an E- learning class.

Yes No I am familiar with using a computer for email, word processing and accessing the Internet.

Yes No I am able to manage my time and work on course materials independently while meeting assignment deadlines.

Yes No I consider myself a self-starter and well-organized. I prioritize tasks and do not procrastinate.

Yes No I am able to effectively express my ideas in writing to my instructor and other students via email, chat rooms or discussion groups.

Yes No I am comfortable reading and viewing material from other sources and integrating it on my own.

Yes No It is not important for me to have face-to-face interaction with my instructor or other students.

Yes No I consider myself to have above average reading comprehension skills.

If you answered "Yes" to five or more of these questions, you are a prime candidate to register for a distance course. For more help in deciding if an E-Learning course is right for you, please email the E-Learning Advisor or call (302) 857-1750.
