1. Go to the MyDTCC home page (http://my.dtcc.edu), enter your User Name and Password, and select "Login". |

2. Select the "My Courses" tab and find your course in the "My Courses" box. |

3. Look at the top line in the yellow highlight, it shows you where you have been, so you can use it just like a navigation bar. The line is called "Cookies." |

Lets take a look at Blackboard from the student view first:

| Announcements: You can view teacher notification daily or all that were entered during the semester. |
| Course Info: Students can see various files such as: course overview, syllabus, calendar, class policies (recommend that you put paperwork here that changes each semester or even within a semester. |
| Staff Info: Students will view a picture of the instructor with their contact information such as e-mail, phone numbers, fax, office hours, etc. |
| Course Documents: The fill content of your course: students will read an introduction, objectives, lecture notes, PowerPoints, Acrobat documents, helpful internet sites, worksheets, handouts, etc. |
| Assignments: This is for students to view assignments during the course. Some teachers post assignments in the Course Document folders or find it too redundant or time consuming to delete or change the button. Some instructors use this section to post thier exams. |
| Communications: Blackboard offers various communicaton methods to suit about any need. |

Send e-mail: Can send e-mail to all students at once or one at a time. |

Collaboration: Contains the Virtual Classroom (if a student can not make it to class and needs help on a problem, you can use the window as a white board, while texting through blackboard or talking on the phone. Also contains Chat where you can archive your discussions with the student (blue circle button will start recording your discussion and you can pause if ithere is any part of the discussion you do not want archived.) - Java is required |

Roster: Lists all students and their college e-mails |

Group Pages: Students can be grouped together to allow for conversations between them without any other student access (Virtual Classroom or Chat Discussion Board.) You can also set up file exchange within the group. - Java is required |

Discussion Board: Allow on-going discussions about topics to be posted by students. Also allows students to set up large presentations so they can present them in class with no hassle. (no disks or e-mail) |

External Links: Allows you to place links to the internet that students can use as a continual reference. |

Tools: Blackboard offers a variety of tools that students can use to enhance thier learning. |
| |

| Digital Drop Box: For homework (make sure you tell students to save the file by their name and assignment.) This can accept large files that may not e-mail. |
| Create Homepage: Students can set this as their homepage |
| Personal Info: This is where students can add their profile info. (Encourage use of college e-mail) |
| Calendar: Too much work - avoid! |
| View Grades: Instructor must use the Gradebook in blackboard for students to view grades. If a student takes a test in blackboard it will automatically put the grade on the spreadsheet. |
| Student Manual: This is the Blackboard Manual to help them with using Blackboard. |
| Electric Blackbard: This can be used for notes to self. |
| Address Book: Students can create their own address book. |
