Student Responsibilities

 

E-Learning education is similar to traditional education in many ways, and you will have many of the same responsibilities you have always had in your face-to-face courses.  For example, your courses will still deal with challenging, difficult materials, and your instructors will still have high expectations for you.  You will have to complete all of your work, meet deadlines, and apply yourself. 

E-Learning also requires students to take on multiple responsibilities not generally necessitated by traditional courses.  To succeed at an E-Learning course, you must:

• Make certain you have acquired all materials you need for the course.
• Take it upon yourself to get help if you need it, especially technological help.  Understand that not knowing how to do something is not an excuse for not doing it.  This responsibility includes making certain you have the correct browser and correct programs to access course content.
• Motivate yourself to complete your work and meet your deadlines.  You will not have an instructor standing in front of you, constantly reminding you when your work is due.  You must pace yourself.
• Log in to your course and check your email on a regular basis.  In fact, you should do both a certain number of times per week.  The exact number of times you must do this will be communicated by your instructor, but once per day is generally a good minimum.
• Help create and participate in a community of learners.  This means that you have the responsibility to engage in conversation with the students and the instructor, give feedback, and ask questions.
• Maintain academic integrity by avoiding academic dishonesty and plagiarism.
