Tips for Success

 

Keeping some things in mind will help you excel in your online courses:

• Make certain to log in to your course in order to “attend” the orientation.  Instructors communicate expectations and important information early, plus your E-Learning instructor has no idea if you are actually attending the class until you log in.
• Make sure you understand what is expected of you, and you should ask for clarification if anything is unclear.
• Designate times where you plan to “attend” class and stick to those times as much as possible.
• Try not to fall behind.  It is easier to procrastinate in an E-Learning course, but you must resist the temptation to do so.
• Plan on devoting at least as much time to your E-Learning classes as you do to your traditional classes.
• Engage with your instructor and with other students.  Ask questions, answer questions if you are able, solicit feedback, and give feedback. 
• Stay organized.  Try creating a calendar, keeping electronic folders, and keeping care of your email communications.
• Employ the same study techniques you would use to be successful in a traditional course.  For example, set a specific time and place to study, eliminate distractions when engaging with the course or when studying, and devote sufficient time to studying (generally one to two hours per course hour per week minimum).
