• Developing faculty teaching skills in ways that will lead to greater student retention
• Identifying students who are "at risk" and developing proactive intervention methods
• Helping students to develop life skills such as time management, study skills and career exploration
• Creating learning communities that link courses together
• Establishing opportunities for students to be mentored by peers and faculty
