In May-June, 2009, students studied history, politics, law, geography, education, and culture in Edinburgh, Scotland. Students explored such landmarks as New Lanark World Heritage Site, the Highlands, the Royal Mile, Parliament, Postal Service and many museums in Scotland.
Students from Delaware Tech joined their colleagues from Northampton, Davidson County and Howard Community Colleges in collaboration with Istanbul Aydin University, Turkey offered a study abroad course in May/June, 2009. Students studied the culture and customs and traveled to the cities of Istanbul, Izmir, Ephesus, Troy, Bergama, and Pamukkule. The group participated in lectures on history, politics, religion, gender roles, and education and engaged in cultural tours of the Topaki Palace, and the Haggia Sophia.
In May-June 2009, students had the opportunity to learn about the impact that socialization has on individuals from different cultural backgrounds and examined the politics and economy, history and culture and technology of Russia. They journeyed on an overnight train, and explored sites such as the Kremlin, Red Square, and Peterhof Palace.
In 2009, ten students traveled to the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland for an 11-day excursion. After biweekly classes and enrichment activities that focused on the history, politics, arts and religions of each country, students journeyed through Ireland for hands-on site visits. The classes held in-country focused on literature written by local authors and gave students a deepened understanding of both Northern and the Republic of Ireland. Capstone projects were presented to the class during the last week of the semester.
In spring 2009, six students and two faculty members attended lectures on the history, health care system, traditional medicine, and social issues. This course introduced cultural concepts and methods specific to understanding the health beliefs and practices of the Mexican culture. Students participated in five class sessions prior to travel in Merida, Mexico. Cultural and educational tours included an excursion to Chizen Itza and a visit to a Mayan village.
In collaboration with Elizabethtown College, students studied abroad for 17 days on a program to Vietnam. From a service-learning perspective, students learned about the cultural differences related to disabilities, child development, and medical resources while visiting and working at orphanages.
From July 14 to 28, 2006 students studied the Spanish language and enjoyed the beautiful city of Cuernavaca, Mexico. Students attended Spanish communication classes each morning and heard lectures on the history and culture each afternoon until 2 PM. Afterward students had time interacting with other students and enjoying Mexican food. Evenings included learning to salsa dance. On the weekends, students visited Aztec ruins and other historical sites
