Creativity Team & Activities |

Coordinators: The Creativity Team is an after-school activity that provides an opportunity for Academic Challenge students to interact and work together in a non-academic setting. Beginning in 1990, the Creativity Team has two events that they produce each year. "Whatchamacallit" is a day of competition between teams from each of the high schools and middle schools throughout Sussex County. It is usually held on the first Friday in December at Delaware Technical & Community College. The Creativity Team design and creates nine or ten challenges, each lasting fifteen minutes. The challenges are designed to test each team's intellectual, creative and physical abilities, as well as the team's capacity to work together to complete a challenge. Every team must complete each challenge. The teams receive points for their efforts and at the end of the day, three teams receive trophies, also designed by the Creativity Team. Whatchamacallit is an opportunity for students not in the Academic Challenge Program to visit the Delaware Tech Owens campus with their peers in an informal situation. The main objective is to have fun! The second event the Creativity Team produces is the Academic Challenge Awards Ceremony. The ceremony takes place at the end of the school year to recognize the achievements of the Academic Challenge students. The Creativity Team design the stage props, create the skits, hosts and perform the scenes. This provides a time and place for students to interact with their peers and form bonding friendships that extend throughout their high school and college years.
