3. Select only one of the books below:

   1. The Old Man and the Sea - by Ernest Hemingway

   2. Starman Jones - by Robert A. Heinlein

   3. Jane Eyre - by Charlotte Bronte

For each of the books you read, write brief notes which focus on important information about the plot, characters, setting, and theme(s).  One to two pages of notes per book should be adequate. Do not write a step-by-step summary of the book - major highlights only.

An objective quiz and a short in-class writing assignment will be given on all three books during the first class session.

NOTE:  Some copies of these books are available at your local libraries. Inexpensive used copies are generally for sale on www.amazon.com where you can read summaries and reviews of these books. We suggest that you read reviews of the books before selecting your third choice.
