About the Program

The Upward Bound Math & Science Center program is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of fifty participating students from Sussex County high schools. The goal is to help students recognize their potential to excel in math and science and encourage them to pursue post-secondary degrees in these fields.

Services

  • Planning for a career in math or science
  • Learning about college majors in math and science
  • Selecting, scheduling, and taking college classes
  • Assisting in applying for financial aid
  • Taking classes in math, science, foreign language, computers, SAT and English
  • Learning study skills and strategies
  • Selecting and applying to a college
  • Tutoring
  • Preparing for college entrance exams
  • Learning the research process
  • Visiting colleges and cultural sites
  • Training in the use of computers and graphing calculators

Funding

The Upward Bound Math & Science Center is a TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. For the 2006-2007 project year, the Owens Campus was awarded $253,259 in federal funds.
