The Communications Technology program focuses on providing the highest quality of education to prepare the next generation of leaders in journalism and communications.

The program provides the essential environment for students preparing for careers in print, visual or broadcasting media. Emphasis in the program is on application, with students serving in an internship prior to graduation. In addition, students assemble a portfolio of coursework and projects to demonstrate their skills to employers.

Students learn how to write stories for print, radio and television news and get to put that knowledge into use by writing for the campus' monthly publication The Script.

Working at WDTS, the campus radio lab provides valuable radio experience allowing students to learn how to operate professional equipment and software.

Students receive valuable training in video production. Coursework includes hands-on experience using digital video cameras and industry leading video editing software. In addition, students learn how to write for the visual medium.

Education in professional design software provides students with essential training in pagination, Web page design and development, and photographic techniques.

The Communications Department works closely with a group of communications professionals who advise administrators and instructors on developments in the workplace. This advisory committee helps keep the department abreast of technological changes and skills students will need to succeed after they graduate.
