Program MissionThe Communications Technology provides instruction for students preparing for careers in the print and broadcasting media. The program focuses on hands-on education in the latest technology. Course curriculum includes study in a variety of media, including broadcast radio, television production, Web site design, and writing and paginating for the print media. Because students must be strong communicators, the program stresses the development of writing skills for newspapers, advertising, and broadcasting. The preparation and delivery of both group and individual oral presentations are also incorporated. Students study issues that influence the media, including the conglomeration of the industry, emerging media, growing competition, economic imperatives, the role of the government, the influence of the legal system, and the ethical structures upon which decisions are based. Program effectiveness is continuously measured through established outcomes assessment methods. Modalities implemented include graduate and employer satisfaction indices and other measurement instruments. Results from these measurements are used for continuous program improvement.
