Human Services GraduateWhat will I be able to do when I graduate?

The graduate will be able to:

  1. Create and maintain effective and professional documents relevant to human services agencies.
  2. Interact ethically and professionally within the human services field.
  3. Apply information to identify clients' strengths, weaknesses, and resources to create a treatment plan.
  4. Provide effective client services at an entry level by utilizing professional human services principles and practices.
  5. Establish effective working relationships within the human services arena.
  6. Apply basic management and leadership skills in human services environments, including time management, organization, and the ability to follow directions.
  7. Utilize feedback to assess his/her effect on human services outcomes and make adjustments accordingly.

Can I continue my education and receive a bachelor's degree in a related field?

What types of classes will I take?

  • The human services program is composed of a variety of classes designed to provide the student the theoretical and practical foundation needed to succeed in the field. There are nine core technology courses and thirteen related courses. Click here to access the Course Sequence Sheet.

How long will it take to get my degree?

  • Time needed to complete a degree varies depending upon the number of classes taken and passed each semester. The range for completion of the degree is 2-10 years.

When and where can I take classes?

  • Most classes are offered in the traditional fashion: classroom setting, 3 hours per week. Classes are offered in the day, meeting two or three times per week and at night, meeting once per week. Selected classes are offered on weekends, online and/or through telecourse (video).

    Classes may be taken at other Delaware Tech campuses (Terry, Wilmington, Stanton) or other colleges. The transfer of credits is determined by the department chair of the subject area in which the credits reside. Click here to view a transfer matrix for Delaware colleges.

How do I know which classes to take?

  • It is the student's responsibility to select and pass the required courses. The course sequence sheets and the college catalog will direct you in your selection of courses. The department chair and faculty will also advise you on the selection and availability of classes.

What are the employment possibilities for graduates?

What are the steps I need to take to enroll at Delaware Tech?

Is the program accredited?

  • The college is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The human services program of the Owens Campus is accredited by the Council for Standards in Human Services Education.
