Firefighters address issue of
renewable energy systems
Posted: Monday, May 21, 2010

The challenges of renewable energy systems and the issues surrounding the systems during a fire were addressed recently by 23 firefighters and first responders from 10 fire departments in Sussex County
The free two-hour course was offered through the cooperative efforts of FLEXERA Solar Energy and Wind Power, the Delaware State Fire School, and Delaware Technical & Community College. John Donato, the marketing director for FLEXERA Solar Energy and Wind Power, was the instructor.
An overview of solar hot water, solar thermal, solar tube lights, solar voltaic, and wind turbines technologies was addressed; then using a step-by-step approach, firefighters learned how to safely manage the scene to eliminate risk of injury and damage to components and property during a fire call.
A first-time offering in each of the state’s counties, the course was approved for two training credit hours by the Delaware State Fire School.
