RESPIRATORY CARE TECHNOLOGY FACT SHEET

 

TITLE OF GRADUATE: Registry Eligible Respiratory Therapist or Advanced Practitioner of Respiratory Care. This is the Highest level offered in the profession. The graduate is not an Aid, Assistant, or Technician.
 

DEGREE GRANTED: AAS - Associate in Applied Science
 

ENTRY POINT: Spring entry for AHT-RCT(Allied Health Technology - Respiratory Care Technology)  students
 

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SUCCESSFUL STUDENT: A strong background in Math and Science. A knowledge of the field is very helpful. Students are recommended to do a "Job Shadow" and interview a current student or Therapist.
 

PROGRAM LENGTH: 4 consecutive semesters after pre-requisite courses are completed -curriculum is sequential, cumulative, and integrated. See sequence sheet.
 

TOTAL SEMESTER CREDITS - 78 excluding RDG 120

TOTAL CLINIC / INTERN CONTACT HOURS - 768 over 3 semesters

ACCREDITATION: Full accreditation by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care

PASS RATE ON THE National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) ENTRY LEVEL (CRT) EXAM: 99% since 1992.   Many of our graduates find jobs
at the local hospitals: BayHealth, Nanticoke Memorial, Beebe Medical Center, PRMC, ShoreHealth Systems and Christiana Care.

 
LICENSE: Delaware requires a license to practice and minimum requirement is passing the CRT/ Entry level exam given by the NBRC.

 

JOB PLACEMENT: 100% since the program graduated students in 1992.
 

SALARY RANGE: $17 - $41 per hour for licensed Therapists.
 

MISCELLANEOUS: The program is expanding the skill inventory of its graduates thus making the graduate more marketable. The hospitals are demanding multiskilled practitioners and our graduates are suited for this need. Our graduates are expanding into many new areas outside traditional Respiratory Care such as in Cardiology Diagnostics and Neurophysiology studies. The program uses many methods to enhance the student' s critical thinking skills. This is done through the use of problem-based learning and computer aided instruction.
 

Students may transfer to local Colleges and Universities to complete a Bachelor' s Degree.
