The Tutoring Center is located in The Learning Center (Center), which is
in room 336 in The Arts & Science Center at the Owens Campus. The
Tutoring Center staff helps students become independent, self-confident, and
efficient learners. The services are designed to foster success and
retention through the mastery of course content and skills. The services of
the Tutoring Center are available to all students who attend Delaware Tech
and the University of Delaware Parallel Program. Students must present an updated
identification badge to enter the Center. As a partner with students,
faculty, staff, and administrators, the Tutoring Center upholds the mission,
standards, and requirements of Delaware Technical & Community
College.
The Tutoring Center provides tutorial services to all students in a judicial
and professional manner. The Center creates an optimal educational
environment for students, which is conducive to learning and retaining the
knowledge needed for reaching personal, academic and professional
goals. Our mission is to assist students with their assimilation into
the campus environment, their completion of courses, and their preparation
for entrance into the community. We offer individual and group tutorial
services, consultation support, orientation to courses, computer assistance,
computer-based tutorials, instructional CDs, tapes and books, test and
project preparation, varied skills evaluations, and academic workshops for
students.
Our tutors are professionals, graduates, students, and volunteers. Each
tutor attends over eight hours of tutor training a year. Our Tutor
Training Program is aligned with the CRLA, College Reading and
Learning Association Certified Tutor Training Program. Our tutors are
trained in goal setting, critical thinking, role modeling, ethics, problem
solving, cultural awareness, diversity, study skills, Learning Styles, and
communication. Our Tutoring Center is a member of NTA, the National Tutoring Association.
