Academic Support Counseling - T, O, SW
Academic Support Counselors work closely with academic advisors and instructors to monitor an individual student's progress in his/her studies at Delaware Tech. Helping students succeed in college and reach their goals is the function of the counselors.

Admissions Counseling - T, O, SW
Counselors meet with prospective students to provide general information about the College, its degree, diploma, and certificate programs and the admissions process; they also assist students in selecting appropriate college programs and conduct formal admissions interviews for new students.

Assessment & Placement Testing - T, O, SW
Students entering college differ considerably in achievement in English, mathematics and reading. Therefore, Delaware Tech uses a nationally recognized standardized placement test to compare students to a common standard. Administered at the time of admission, this procedure allows the College to identify the appropriate course level for every student in each of those subjects. SAT/ACT test scores are acceptable if test was taken within the last five years.

Athletics - O, SW
Delaware Technical & Community College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and competes in Region XIX located in Delaware, New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. Intercollegiate teams are fielded in men's baseball, men's basketball, men's soccer, women's volleyball women's softball and coed golf. Eligibility to compete on the intercollegiate level is determined by the Athletic Director. Not all sports are offered at each campus.

The Career Center provides a variety of services designed to acquaint its users with practical and theoretical skills related to the world of work. These services include assistance with the career decision making process, as well as preparation for job seeking. Transfer information, help with interviews, resumes, and cover letter preparation is provided. Listings of local businesses that hire Delaware Tech graduates are available. Other career services encourage exploration of self and the world of work, i.e., interest inventories, skills assessments, workshops, information on occupations, colleges, universities, including a computerized program, "DISCOVER." These services aid in matching values and interests to suitable career choices.

Counseling - T, O, SW
Professional counseling services are available to all students from the time of initial inquiry through graduation. Concerns of an educational, vocational or personal nature are handled confidentially. Each student is assigned a counselor. Counselors interview all new applicants to the College. They provide new student orientation programs, teach college success courses, conduct student success workshops and work with instructional staff toward student success. Hours may vary by campus.

Fitness Centers - T, O, SW
Cardio-Kinetics Inc. operates fitness centers all campuses. The fitness facilities are staffed by a trained exercise physiologist and are open daily throughout the week. Hours may vary by campus. All full-time students, faculty and staff are encouraged to use the centers at no cost. Faculty and students are required to have a physical examination prior to beginning an exercise regimen.

Foreign Student Services
Services and guidelines are provided to assist students from other countries who want to enter the U.S. or to transfer from another college in order to study at Delaware Tech. A counselor is assigned to assist students with issues related to their foreign student status and to ease their adjustment into college.

The graduation ceremony is held in May and coordinated by Student Services. Students are notified in February of their eligibility to participate in graduation.

Health & Wellness - SW
Doing well in college requires your personal best! Concerns about your physical health and emotional well-being can sometimes interfere with your studies. At Delaware Tech, we care about your success and offer a wide variety of services: first aid, blood pressure and weight checks, health counseling/referrals, counseling and testing (individual or group), psychological referrals, health education and promotion, informational/educational literature, workshops and seminars, counseling/referrals, special health and wellness events, classroom instruction.

The Student Services staff is a main resource on campus and the College, its policies, procedures and programs. Counselors are well informed about campus and community resources, events and services.

Orientation - T, O, SW
Orientation for new students is held prior to the beginning of the semester. All new students receive written notification of the time and date of orientation. During this program, students have the opportunity to interact with faculty advisors and counselors. Tours of the campus are available at this time.

Peer Associate Program - SW
Peer Associates are second-year students who are trained by counselors to help other students succeed at Delaware Tech. Peer Associates help students adjust to college life and support the professional counseling staff in educational activities. Peer tutorial services offered at Terry and Owens Campuses.

Student Activities - T, O, SW
The Office of Student Activities provides cultural, social and recreational programs throughout the academic year. These programs include music, art, comedy, and other activities which promote a relaxed atmosphere for students and the opportunity for social interaction. In conjunction with student activities, student rates are available for special seminars and trips.

Student clubs and organizations provide an important service to the student body and they exist on campus to meet student career and social interests. Career clubs are directly related to the various technologies. They provide opportunities for interaction between students and professionals. Other clubs provide social events, cultural exchanges and exposure to the community to broaden the scholastic experience.

Student Government Association /Student Senate - T, O, SW
The Student Government Association (SGA) and/or Student Senate represent and communicate student interests and concerns, and administer policies governing student extracurricular activities. Student government also provides social and cultural activities beyond the classroom which are essential to a full and meaningful college experience.

Student Identification Cards - T, O, SW
Registered students are required to obtain an identification card. To obtain a student identification card you must present a copy of your current semester schedule and a form of photo identification such as a state issued driver' s license, identification card or military identification. Students are required by College policy to be in possession of the ID card whenever on campus. Students may be required to show the ID cards at College functions, the Wellness Center or the Business Office. ID cards are also required to use the Tutoring Center, the labs, and to borrow books from the campus Library. There is no charge for a student ID. Student Newspapers - T, O, SW
Student newspapers are published during the regular school year. Each issue includes news targeted to students and features stories about students and faculty. The newspaper also publishes columns, editorials, photographs and cartoons produced by students. The goal of the newspaper is to be the local paper for the student population and a learning laboratory for students interested in communication and journalism.

Students with Special Needs - T, O, SW
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), reasonable accommodations will be provided for students who qualify. It is the responsibility of the student to request services at least one month before classes begin. After reasonable accommodations have been identified and documented by the ADA counselor, written verifications are sent to the student's instructor. Instructors are responsible for accommodating the student only after they have received the written request for accommodation. The instructor should not make any accommodations without written verification that the student's request has been approved.

Students interested in transferring to another institution can meet with a counselor to learn more about this process and the resources available on campus to help them with the transition.

Tutoring - T, O, SW
Tutoring is a service designed to help students master a subject, prepare for test and sharpen their skills in order to become independent learners. Tutoring services are free for all students and are provided to the extent of campus resources. Comprehensive tutoring services are offered during the fall and spring semesters. Students generally receive one hour of tutoring per course each week, if needed. Limited tutorial services may be provided during the summer sessions. Veterans' Affairs - T, O, SW
The Veterans' Affairs Office coordinates veterans enrollment and attendance status. Services include verification of veterans' enrollment, attendance, and maintenance data; counseling and tutorial support is offered.

The Within Reach Newsletter is a periodic publication filled with valuable information and handy academic tips to make the Delaware Tech experience a rewarding one. The Counseling Corner Newsletter is a monthly series of helpful human development articles provided by the American Counseling Association. These Student Services publications are available in the Student Development Center on each campus.

Women's Center - SW
The Women's Center at Delaware Technical & Community College provides an environment that supports the academic, professional, emotional and social development of all women students on campus. The Center offers workshops, support groups and referrals.
