Forensic Osteology workshop at Stanton as of 3/20/08
If you happened to wander by the Conference Center at the Stanton campus and saw someone holding a human skull, yet didn’t hear “Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him well, Horatio”, not to worry. Although John Moore, professor at Parkland College in Illinois, is a man of infinite jest, he is also a leading educator in forensic osteology. He was on hand, with support from an INBRE grant from the National Institute of Health, to present a two day workshop on the basic understanding of the methodology and techniques of forensic osteology.
Professor Moore has assisted Illinois police agencies and coroner’s office with homicide investigations through his forensics knowledge in trace evidence. During the two day workshop, he covered a number of topics, including identifying human vs non-human remains, skeletal inventory, and biological profile. He has presented numerous workshops around the country, which have proven to be especially useful to science educators, judges, attorneys, death investigators and students.
A special thanks to the crew in the Biology/Chemistry Department for putting the Forensic Osteology Workshops together and giving our campus community an opportunity to see how they do it on TV.
