Educational Commission (DHEC)

DHEC administers financial aid programs for the State of Delaware for students interested in pursuing a higher education. There are three programs in particular which may be of interest to you:

1. Scholarship Incentive Program (ScIP)

2. Nursing Scholarship/Loan Program.

3. Workforce Training Grants.

The College makes every effort to assist students in obtaining financial aid. If you are eligible, a variety of sources can help you pay for college. Financial aid may be used for tuition, fees, books, transportation and living costs. It can help make your dream of a college degree
a reality.

Returning Student Scholarships

1) Please read the scholarship requirements carefully before you submit your application. Only students enrolled in technology programs qualify for scholarships.

2) The 2007-2008 Scholarship Application for Current Students is to be used only for those scholarships listed on the application.

3) Scholarships that require a different application are indicated in the text of the scholarship program.

4) The College reserves the right to reduce scholarship awards because of outside scholarship resources received by the recipient. Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid.

Deadline: May 15 each year


Central Administration Scholarship Program

The following three scholarship programs are administered by the Office of the President. Applicants must complete a separate application for each scholarship. The required applications are included in this web site.

Board of Trustees Scholarship Program

Trustee Scholarship Program Guidelines (full guidelines available in the Financial Aid Office)

  1. Partial and full scholarships will be awarded for tuition for the students program of study.
  2. Scholarship awards will follow the financial aid and scholarship calendar and process of the campus.
  3. Applicants must apply for financial aid.

Trustee Academic Merit Scholarship

  1. For returning full-time students with a tech cumulative GPA of 3.80 or higher
  2. Applicants must have completed at least 12 college level credits (100 level or above) at Delaware Technical & Community College in the applicant's declared technology with a minimum 3.80 tech cumulative GPA in these courses by the end of the spring semester
  3. Maintain a minimum tech cumulative GPA for the scholarship to be renewed each semester

Trustee Recognition Scholarship
The Trustee Recognition Scholarship is administered by the Vice President and Campus Director through nomination only. This scholarship recognizes unique accomplishments or outstanding contributions to the community which may include community service, heroism, leadership, etc. Recipients may enroll full or part-time.

James C. Holloway, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
The James C. Holloway, Jr. Memorial Scholarship recognizes new or returning full- time students who are residents of the City of Wilmington, who have performed significant community service within the City of Wilmington, and who demonstrate financial need either through the federal technical definition of demonstrated need or through documented hardship as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Trustee Access Scholarship
The Access Scholarship is a one-time award for up to one academic year for students who demonstrate financial need either through the federal definition of demonstrated need or through documented hardship as determined by the Financial Aid Office.


General Scholarship Program

Academic Incentive - full tuition nonrenewable
Open to full-or part-time returning students with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above. Applicants must have earned at least 16 college level credits (100 level or above), be a United States citizen and a Delaware resident as defined in the College catalog. Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


Educational Foundation - $1,000 nonrenewable
Open to full or part time returning students with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above. Applicants must have earned at least 16 college level credits (100 level or above). Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


Dr. Alma Powell Memorial - variable nonrenewable
Open to full or part time returning students with high scholastic ability as demonstrated by various test scores and high school GPA of 2.50 or above. Two letters of recommendation from high school or Delaware Tech staff members plus a statement from the applicant describing his/her merits for the scholarship are required. Need is considered. Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


Dr. Harriet A Brown Student Services Scholarship - $250 nonrenewable
Open to full-time students matriculated in a degree program at the Stanton Campus.  Must have a GPA of 2.5 and completed a minimum of 24 college credit hours.  Recipient must display outstanding leadership while participating in student services activity, club or athletic program.   Determined by Student Services Committee.


James H. Gilliam, Sr. Community Service Scholarship - renewable
Open to full-time students.  Recipient must be a New Castle County of Delaware resident who demonstrates community service with two letters of recommendation.  Must be in good academic standing with a high school or college minimum GPA of 3.0.  Applicants must complete a separate application available at the Financial Aid Office and apply for financial aid.  Determined by the Gilliam Foundation

John Shew Memorial Scholarship - nonrenewable
Awarded to an outstanding student athlete who is a first year player entering his/her second year.  Must be a declared technology level student.  The scholarship covers tuition.  Determined by the Athletic Director and committee. 


Pythian Sisters of Delaware Scholarship - renewable
Open to full-time students.  Need is considered.  Recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Must reside in the state of Delaware or Maryland.  Renewable for the second year if student maintains eligibility.  Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


Peer Associate - up to $600 nonrenewable
Scholarship for bookstore expenses (up to $300/semester) open to full- or part-time returning students who have completed at least two, semesters, earned at least 24 credits and are enrolled in a technology. Requires a separate application. Determined by the Student Services Division. Contact the Student Development Center at 571-5326 (Wilmington Campus) or 454-3954 (Stanton Campus) for an application or more information.

Memorial Scholarship Program

Determined by the Scholarship Committee.

Allied Health and Nursing Scholarship Program

Dr. Richard R. Koch and Phyllis A Koch Memorial Scholarship
Open to full-time students.  Nursing students in clinical shall meet the full-time status for the purpose of this scholarship.  Recipient must be a Delaware resident.  Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Provide proven community involvement or volunteer activity within the last year.  Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


The Reverend C. Frederick & Mrs. Cleta R. Mathias Memorial Fund - nonrenewable

Open to Nursing students accepted into the clinical phase of the Associate Degree Nursing Program at the Stanton Campus.  Recipient must have passed the National League of Nursing Pre-Admission examination prior to application.  Need based scholarship awarded to students in NUR141.  Determined by the Scholarship Committee. 


Larry B. Sybrandt Memorial - up to $2,000 renewable
Open to full- or part-time students in the Chemistry, Biotechnology or Allied Health Technologies. Need is considered. Recipient must show academic potential and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. The scholarship covers tuition, fees and books. Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


Dr. Albert G. Tini Memorial - $1,000 nonrenewable
Selection made by the Nursing Department and the Financial Aid Office.


Science and Engineering Technology Scholarship Program

Charles W. Christy III Memorial Scholarship - $400 nonrenewable
Open to part-time students who have completed 12 credits.  Must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5.   Submit a letter of recommendation from a present or past employer or teacher.  Have no additional sources of financial grants or tuition reimbursements.  Determined by the Scholarship Committee.

Francis H Schweikert Memorial Scholarship - nonrenewable
Open to full-time students.  This is a need based scholarship.  The scholarship covers tuition and fees.  Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


Fire Protection/Safety Management - $500 nonrenenewable
Open to students in either the Fire Protection Engineering or Safety Management Technologies who have earned at least 30 credits for FET or 20 credits for SMT. One scholarship is based on financial need and the other scholarship is based on academic performance. Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


Larry B. Sybrandt Memorial - up to $2,000 renewable
Open to full- or part-time students in the Chemistry, Biotechnology or Allied Health Technologies. Need is considered. Recipient must show a lot of potential and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. The scholarship covers tuition, fees and books. Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


Criminal Justice Scholarship Program

Delaware Crime Stoppers Police Memorial - $500
Open to Criminal Justice students at the Stanton Campus. Contact Alan Lavallee at 454-3910 for application details.


Math Department Scholarship Program

Math Scholarship Fund - nonrenewable

Student must be currently enrolled in the fall semester at Delaware Tech and is registering for the spring semester.  Must have a GPA of 3.0 in math and demonstrate exceptional appreciation of math through studying and/or involvement in extracurricular activities. Applicants must complete a separate application available in the Math Department.  Determined by the Math Department Chair and committee consisting of other math instructors. 


Mathematics Secondary Education Scholarship Program

Dr. Richard R. Koch and Phyllis A Koch Memorial Scholarship
Open to full-time students.  Recipient must be a Delaware resident.  Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Provide proven community involvement or volunteer activity within the last year.  Determined by the Scholarship Committee.


Business Administration Scholarship Program

Don Thomas Memorial Fund - $500 nonrenewable
Open to full or part-time students.  Must be a first year student.  Have a minimum 3.25 GPA from high school.  Must be recommended by accounting instructors.  Recipient must be actively involved in college activities or in the community.  This scholarship is for tuition only.  Determined by the Business Administration Department and accounting instructors.
