MISSION STATEMENT
The staff senate is an advocacy group for staff members of Delaware Techincal and Community College, Stanton and Wilmington Campuses. The purpose of the Staff Senate is to support the staff members by providing a platform for addressing their concerns. This support is a three-step process:
First, the Staff senate obtains feedback from the staff about their workplace concerns and needs (not including salary and grievance issues.)
Second, they develop the appropriate steps to resolve the staff's needs and concerns.
Finally, they present the proposed solutions to the Campus Administration for approval.
History of the Staff Senate
The Staff Senate was created as a result of a recommendation from the last Delaware Tech Middle States Accreditation visit and the Campus Peer Review Process. In 1997, a study group including representatives from all campus salary plans researched the feasibility of a staff organization. Approval of a staff organization by the campus administration led to the appointment of an Interim Senate to develop the organization and hold elections. The draft constitution was ratified and twenty elected senators and alternates were confirmed at the first Staff Senate meeting in January 1998.
