Committee Discussion
There was some discussion about the number of committees we should continue with the academic year. It was decided that only three subcommittees will be active: Professional Programs, Personal Growth/Social Programs, and Web Site Development (which may need a new name since the site has been started). Those in attendance indicated their desire to stay on the committee they were on last year. The two new people, Portia Sterling and Brenda Grassett, will be asked to select one of the three subcommittees. Carolyn Pabian chose to become part of the Personal Growth/Social Programs subcommittee. Lisa Strusowski is supposed to return in November. We look forward to seeing her again.
Andrew has decided to focus a portion of his energy on meeting the needs of the adjunct faculty so that subcommittee was disbanded. Andrew is planning to write a grant to find funds to pay adjuncts for attending the professional development activities.
The following is a list of the TRC Committee members with their subcommittees (please let Karen or Valerie know if there are errors):

Coordinator's Report
Andrew provided a written report of the activities since the last meeting of last year and the results of some surveys that he developed and distributed. Analysis of the survey results will guide the committee's work, with the goal of better meeting the needs of the adjuncts and full time faculty.
It was agreed that once the furniture that has been ordered for the TRC space in the AV area of the library has been delivered, we will organize an Open House to make faculty aware of this wonderful new area. The size of the area will be appropriate for subcommittee meetings.
The survey that was distributed to full time faculty asking for input regarding the types of workshops the faculty would like to have the opportunity to attend, indicated that there is a need for information on teaching culturally and academically diverse students. In an effort to address this issue the TRC Advisory Committee decided to support a request by Lisa Hastings of the Diversity Committee regarding a YMCA program promoting study circles. The program involves 10 15 people meeting to discuss issues with a trained facilitator.
Ken Weaverling has been working with Andrew Zimmerman to arrange a workshop on Windows XP. It has been scheduled for Friday, October 4th. A flyer will be going out very shortly.
Andrew Zimmerman would like the committees to decide which topics they would like to focus on, what length of program would be the most appropriate, that is, a lunch & learn (approximately 1 h) or a workshop (1.5 to 2 h), and identify the individual who would be willing to do the program. Andrew will then take care of the publicity and arrangements.
Andrew Zimmerman and Valerie Bergeron will be presenting a brief session (1 h) on active learning at the Adjunct Orientation scheduled for 9/21/02. The question of whether to distribute raffle tickets at this orientation was discussed. It was decided we would ask Louise Bue if she would donate a small gift for Saturday. Kim Gregor followed up on this and Louise, very generously, provided a sweatshirt to raffle off.
Professional Programs
Brenda Grassett indicated she would be willing to do a workshop on helping faculty encourage and support better student self-assessment. Kim Gregor and Valerie Bergeron have volunteered to do a brief workshop on the new integrated course they are teaching.
Personal Growth/Social Programs
It was decided that the TRC would advertise a lunch at the Queen Bean restaurant on October 18th. The idea is to provide faculty with an opportunity to meet and talk to people from other departments. Each person will of course pay for his/her own lunch. Carolyn Pabian will contact the restaurant to see if they would be willing to give us discount coupons. Carolyn Pabian and Vivian Goldberg will get the details from the restaurant and will give them to Andrew who will get the information out to the faculty. Full-time and part-time faculty will be invited.
Web Site Development
Kim McFetridge reported that we need to replace some of the photos that are on the web site. It was decided that we will replace all four photos. Andrew Zimmerman will ask Suzanne Tuthill if she would be willing to have her photo up there. He will also talk to some of the new hires, and Valerie Bergeron will ask Mary Alice Conrad, a long time adjunct faculty member in the Allied Health/Science Department.
Andrew Zimmerman will send the link to the TRC website out to everyone via email as well as in the newsletter.
Other Business
Karen Wallace and Valerie Bergeron will be attending the NCSPOD Annual Meeting in Philadelphia in two weeks. Unfortunately Carolyn Pabian is unable to attend.
In order to encourage attendance at workshops this year, the raffle tickets will be distributed and a nice prize will be given away at the end of the semester. Kim Gregor will finalize the details of the prize. Andrew Zimmerman has the tickets and will keep them safe until the drawing is held. Information about the new raffle will be distributed with the first event.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 PM.

I. Coordinator's Report Andrew Zimmerman
Andrew provided the committee with a list of activities that had been done since the beginning of the calendar year (January 2002). They include a survey of the part time faculty to identify their professional development needs. The survey asked for input regarding the types of topics, the times that were preferred and the e mail address. There were 30 out of 100 responses to the survey. Many of the activities for the end of year and the upcoming fall semester will be scheduled taking into consideration this information.
Six workshops were sponsored. Five of the six were technology related, one was not. Attendance at four of the six workshops seemed down from last year. Possible explanations are the increase in teaching hours and many faculty are involved in the Middlestates process. A suggestion by Karen Wallace was made to encourage attendance for next year. It is presented under Other Issues.
Two issues of the newsletter, "Creative Teaching," were produced and distributed. Ed Kelley and Angela Shreve were to two faculty members who were highlighted.
Andrew has been working with Donna Abed, Head Librarian, to establish a physical space for the TRC. It is hoped that funds will be allocated to provide furniture for the space. Currently several professional development periodicals have been set up in shelves in the area.
Three days of workshops are planned for the end of the academic year. A brochure describing the workshops was distributed to the committee. It will be distributed to the rest of the faculty at both Wilmington and Stanton.
II. Personal Growth/Social Programs Vivian Goldberg
Vivian Goldberg provided information about Singin in the Rain at 3 Little Bakers. Diane Hamalak's daughter is performing in the show. It was decided at the meeting that June 12, 2002 was the preferred date. Andrew will make up a flyer and distribute it to the campus. Vivian volunteered to collect the money.
III. Website Development Gina Gennari/Kim McFetridge
The subcommitee will be meeting with Mary Jane Arden this week and is gathering information for the website. It may be up and running by the beginning of the fall semeseter.
IV. First Fall meeting Karen Wallace
The first meeting for the fall semester will be held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 1:00 PM. It is requested that each subcommittee come to the meeting with a list of ideas for the 2002-03 academic year. Andrew will send out a survey to all faculty to get an idea of what topics are of interest to most people.
V. Other Issues
In order to encourage more participation in the TRC workshops Karen Wallace suggestion that we provide each participant in the fall workshops with a raffle ticket. At the end of the semester, a name will be drawn to win a prize that we hope will be donated by the DTCC Bookstore. The more workshops a person attended the more tickets they would complete so the more chances they would have to win. Karen and Andrew will pursue this idea.

Committee Reports
A. Personal Growth/Social no official report but members attending the meeting indicated that the trip to the Delaware Art Museum was very interesting.
B. Professional Programs The subcommittee (Jan Gorecki, Karen Wallace, and Valerie Bergeron) met with Andrew Zimmerman on 2/15/02. It was decided that rather than have a Lunch and Learn (1 hour session) on Encouraging Writing in the Non-writing Classroom first, we should contact Lisa Hastings and Kristen Yonko, who did the workshop for "Celebrate Learning" in October and Alison Randall, who is responsible for the Writing Center, to see if they would like to do another workshop. If they agree we will set up a lunch and learn at a later date to follow up. The Coordinator will pursue this further.
Andrew also reported at the subcommittee meeting that he is organizing several technology workshops for the end of the academic year.
Members attending this meeting reported that the library tour was very worthwhile. It was not clear whether another one will be scheduled.
C. Web Site Development Kim McFetridge met with Mary Jane Arden regarding the TRC web site. Mary Jane indicated that the web site should be up by the beginning of the fall semester. A new person has been hired so much of the work should begin to be completed. Events that we want posted to the web site should be sent to Kim McFetridge who will then pass them on to Mary Jane. Andrew will be responsible for providing the appropriate information regarding dates and times to Kim. It was suggested that a logo for the TRC should be developed for the web site.
