Each year, Delaware Tech’s Stanton Campus CAD department sponsors a Drafting Competition that is open to high school students in the local area. This year will be Del Tech’s 21st annual competition and is scheduled during National Engineers Week from February 14th -20th. Last year we had approximately 350 students compete from 12 high schools in Delaware and Maryland.
Students compete in one of two categories- manual drafting or computer aided drafting. The students have approximately five hours to work on and complete the design problem in class over a period of two weeks. The drawings from each school are then judged by the Drafting competition committee members and an outstanding drawing from each high school is selected in the manual and CAD categories. After this, the outstanding drawing from each high school is judged against the outstanding drawings from the other high schools and the top 3 Manual drawings and the top 3 CAD drawings are selected.
In April, students, their families, and their high school drafting instructors are invited to participate in an awards ceremony at the Stanton Campus.
All first place winners in each high school receive a plaque with their name on it and Solidworks software.
The top six overall winners receive:
First Place winners in both categories receive a full one-year scholarship to Delaware Tech and
a $100.00 savings bond. They also are awarded one copy each of AutoCAD, Microstation, and Solidworks computer aided-drafting software.
Second Place winners receive a $500 scholarship and a $75.00 savings bond. They also are awarded one copy each of AutoCAD, Microstation, and Solidworks computer aided-drafting software.
Third Place winners receive a $250 scholarship and a $50.00 savings bond. They also are awarded one copy each of AutoCAD, Microstation, and Solidworks computer aided-drafting software.
