AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY DIPLOMA PROGRAM AT DELAWARE TECH is designed to prepare students for an entry level automotive service technician position. During their studies, students participate in the most up-to-date automotive system classroom and lab instruction. They then alternate with on the job co-op training at sponsoring automotive shops. In the classroom the students will study specific subjects related to servicing different makes of vehicles, as well as, receiving considerable attention to the improvement of their communication skills (reading, writing, and interpersonal communications). While working at the sponsoring repair shop, the students will have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge in the actual work setting and receive valuable instruction and guidance from the sponsoring shop's technicians. Upon receiving their diplomas, the students will be qualified to continue on to an associate degree which will prepare them to become automotive technicians. Students will be ready to meet the demands of the marketplace in a rewarding and satisfying career field.

To achieve their goal of a diploma, the students are required to assume all of the responsibilities for their training. The students must qualify for admission to Delaware Tech. They are to take the college's aptitude and placement tests and satisfy all entry requirements.

Another responsibility for students is to obtain employment at any automotive repair facility willing to help train the student. The main responsibility of the facility is to provide training related employment for the student during the work experience. The student may work part-time while attending classes providing it does not interfere with their studies.

In addition to the tuition, fees, and textbook costs, the student is also required to purchase a basic hand tool set if he/she does not already have one. Since the student earns while he/she learns, a considerable portion of the costs in the program are offset.

Delaware Tech is for the career-minded student. Success in the program calls for the investment of time and money, and a full-time commitment to both work and study for the length of training. The rewards far outweigh the costs. The credibility earned by achieving a diploma or degree opens many doors for the automotive technician.
