The laboratory is located in room E119 at the Stanton Campus.

The lab is equipped to provide a variety of industrial quality experiences in the automation, machining and controls system areas.

The Specialized MET Computer Laboratory is equipped with 8 personal computers that run engineering related software solutions.  Many classes in the MET program require that the students visit this lab to complete computer based problems as assigned by their instructors.  Working professionals use similar applications to solve complex technical problems in industry.

The computers are also equipped with software that interfaces with the PLC’s, the PLC Trainers and the HAAS Computer Numerical Control Equipment

In addition to our extensive manual machine shop, the MET Automation lab houses our CNC equipment.  Fundamental CNC programming experiences are imbedded in our Modern Manufacturing (MET123) and Advanced Manufacturing (MET125) classes. 

Our evening CNC Machining (MET235) class is very popular CNC training option for local industry.  Students learn the basics of CNC programming, machine set up, tooling and actually run some parts.  E-mail lynam@dtcc.edu for more info on signing up for MET235.

Programmable Logic Controller Laboratory

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) are an integral part of the smart automation that controls industrial processes around the globe.  The Automation lab is set up to enhance teaching and learning PLC logic, software and hardware. 

Students set up and run a set of PLC simulations using Allen Bradley PLC’s and Rockwell Automation RS Logic software that control a variety of PLC hardware trainers. 

We have the following PLC trainer’s available for regular curriculum laboratory and Industrial Training classes.

Process Control Module Trainer….Simulates the control of a batch process.  Controls a pump tank level, solenoid valve heater and temperature control switch.

PLC peripheral panel with a variety of actuators, solenoids, switches, lamps and relays that can simulate a variety of industrial situations.  The students are given control problems to solve using PLC’s the RS logic software and this simulator.  The students can actually run the PLC program and watch the simulator move as planned.

The Industrial Control Trainer is a simulation of a small portion of a factory that is controlled with the Allen Bradley PLC’s.  The system includes a conveyor, a variety of sensors, solenoids, and quality assurance checking stations

The Hampden HPLC_PPA is a PLC controlled 3 phase motor starter simulator.  The students learn the fundamentals of 3 phase motor starting and reversing.  The control panel can be wired to simulate control stations found in industry.

The automation Lab also houses our Nikon Metallurgical Microscope. The student uses this microscope in Material Science MET264, for a variety of material examinations.  The unit is equipped with a high resolution digital camera and the supporting software for Metallurgical applications.
