5. Appointments are not required, but they are encouraged because they give you a chance to talk to a tutor without having to wait. If you don’t have an appointment, feel free to ask the tutor on duty to help.
6. Please bring your assignment specifics and your course information (class number, section, and instructor’s name) so the tutor can understand your assignment. It is also helpful if you bring two copies of your assignment.
7. No. The Writing Center’s goal is to teach you how to improve your own writing by recognizing strengths and weaknesses in your work. If you just drop a paper off for a tutor to correct, you will not learn these valuable skills.
8. Typically, a student’s session will be 20 minutes; however, there may be certain time constraints set during busier parts of the semester (i.e., mid-terms and finals).
9. No. The Writing Center tutors will not always be available due to previously scheduled appointments. If you wait until the last minute, you may find that there is not enough time to give your paper an adequate review. The Writing Center strongly encourages you to plan ahead.
10. The Writing Center tutors will discuss your paper with you and offer you advice; however, you are ultimately responsible for the content of your paper. That’s why the Writing Center cannot guarantee that you will receive an “A” on an assignment. Our belief, however, is that students who visit the writing center several times with an assignment will probably receive a better grade on that assignment than they would if they visit only once or not at all.
