COURSE DESCRIPTION: Introduction to Entrepreneurship provides the student who has a strong desire to start a business with an understanding of the characteristics of the entrepreneur and the unique concepts of business ownership. Emphasis is placed on identifying and evaluating entrepreneurial opportunities. Students will benefit from case studies and practical entrepreneurial experiences including interaction with successful regional Entrepreneurs. This course focuses on the student’s entrepreneurial potential and creating a new business venture.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides the potential entrepreneur with an understanding of the common legal issues encountered by the business owner. Students will apply the concepts learned to select their business structure, have the opportunity to negotiation contract terms and be able to determine the government regulations pertinent to their business of interest.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course examines the entrepreneur's role in the global economy as an exploiter of opportunities. Topics include the creative search for ideas, the innovation process, and the opportunity analysis to screen for the best ideas. Learning activities cover the decisions needed to transform an idea into a business opportunity. Topics covered include the common sources of ideas, the environmental scan, creating opportunities from ideas, quick industry analysis, competitor scan, decision making principles and analytical techniques to screen opportunities for commercialization potential.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Effective business planning is the cornerstone of success. This course teaches entrepreneurs to state their business passion in practical terms with methods for analyzing their market and competition, setting achievable goals and focusing on a strategic business plan. Understanding the probability of risks, along with developing crisis management, disaster recovery and business continuity plans, provide entrepreneurs with a solid basis to sustain their business and achieve their vision.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Entrepreneurial Leadership determines the success of the business venture. This course shows entrepreneurs how to use effective decision-making and the leadership skills to promote their business and how to guide and motivate their employees through organizational and human resource management.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Funding the start-up business is a critical first decision for the entrepreneur. This course provides the entrepreneur with source of capital options, basic financial knowledge, and forecasting skills. Additionally, students will become acquainted with record reporting systems and how to develop and maintain financial oversight of their business. Through cash flow planning and operating budget development, the entrepreneurial student will build a financial road map for success.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course allows students to apply first-hand the procedures and techniques of owning and running a business. The student will acquire applied experience in an appropriate work situation through job shadowing, an internship, a business simulation or a student start-up business. Students will be expected to comply with the business regulations, laws, and policies for the applicable practicum. In internship and job shadowing cases, students will be supervised and evaluated by a professional designated by the facility based upon criteria provided by the instructor. [Note: Students will not receive compensation in any form for business participation.]
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Capstone Course is the culmination of the Entrepreneurship Program. Students will prepare a professional, comprehensive business plan that will guide their business start-up and address capital funding. Students will present their business plan to community leaders.
