Why is my first paycheck a Live check?
The first check is live because the first submission to the bank (pre-note) is for $0.00 to ensure the account and routing numbers are correct.
How many Delaware Tech Courses may an employee take?
Regular full-time and Temporary full-time employees for Nine Months or more may enroll in as many catalog/credit courses as they desire each academic term. However, only one course may be taken during normal working hours and must be of such a nature as to improve the employee’s work contribution to the College, or count toward a degree which will improve the employee’s work contribution to the College. Excused time for attending shall not exceed six (6) hours during each week the employee attends the course.
All Part-time or Temporary, full-time employees for less than Nine Months may enroll in one course per academic term if the Vice President and Campus Director determines, after recommendation from the employee’s supervisor, that the course is needed to either improve or upgrade the skills the employee needs to more effectively perform in his/her current position with the College. The employee would be required to attend the course during hours other than his/her regular working hours.
Note: Special interest and other non-credit courses are not included in tuition-free offerings.
What signatures are needed for the Tuition Free Delaware Tech Courses Application form?

Regular full-time employees taking classes during non working hours will need to have the Human Resources Director’s signature only.

Is a doctor’s note required for calling out sick?
Absences of five (5) consecutive work days or more require a doctor’s certificate verifying the necessity for the absence, and in the case of the employee’s own illness/injury, a release to return to duty prior to returning to work. The President or appropriate Vice President may, in his/her sole and absolute discretion, require a doctor’s certificate verifying the same information for absences of less than five (5) consecutive work days. Failure to provide required documentation may result in the employee’s pay being docked and/or disciplinary action for the number of days absent in lieu of using paid leave.
How many bereavement days may be used for a death in the family?
7.05 DEATH IN FAMILY
Up to five (5) working days of leave with pay (not charged to other leave time) shall be granted to a regular, full-time or temporary, full-time for nine months or more employee upon request to make arrangements for and attend services of the employee's spouse, son, daughter, parent, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandparent-in-law, granddaughter, grandson, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, step-parent, domestic partner (a person with whom the employee's life is interdependent, with whom the employee maintains a committed relationship, and with whom the employee shares a mutual residence), brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law; parent, grandparent, granddaughter, grandson, daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother or sister of the employee's spouse or domestic partner; any minor child for whom the employee is standing in loco parentis; and any relative living in the household of the employee or domestic partner. Such leave must be justified by submitting appropriate information to the immediate supervisor.
One day (not charged to other leave time) shall be granted to attend the funeral of the employee's nephew, niece, aunt, uncle, cousin, or any friend living in the household. If additional time is required, annual leave may be used. Such leave must be justified by submitting appropriate information to the immediate supervisor.

Since I did not receive an insurance card for my MetLife dental coverage, what information do I need to furnish my dentists’ office in order to attend my appointment?
You will need to let your dentist office know that you have MetLife Dental and give them our group number. This will enable your dentist to bill MetLife. There are also cards available to you at the campus Human Resources office.
How does a department go about filling a vacant position?
The hiring Dean/Director needs to complete a Permission to Hire Form (H.R. Form) which requires the Campus Director’s approval, as well as the Business Manager and the Vice President of Finance for funding purposes.
What is the length of a regular full-time posting?
Postings for Regular, Full-time and Regular, Part-time position vacancies shall be posted for a minimum of 15 calendar days.
What is the length of an internal posting?
Internal postings are posted for a minimum of 10 calendar days.
Who can apply for internal postings?
Internal postings are open only to Regular, Full-time and Regular, Part-time employees of the College. Temporary employees or adjuncts are not eligible to apply for internal postings at DTCC.
Does a position have to be reposted when and if the position becomes vacant within a short period of time?
No, when a position has been posted and filled and becomes vacant for any reason within six (6) months of employment date, it may be filled by another qualified candidate from the original pool of applicants. If the vacancy occurs beyond six (6) months of the initial employment date then the position will then be reposted.
Does an applicant receive full credit for adjunct work or part-time work?
No, one half (1/2) credit is given for all adjunct or part-time (relevant) work, when determining salary for Full-time Salary Plan A and D positions. This one half (1/2) credit may not be given if full-time relevant work is/was performed concurrently.
Who recommends and approves the screening/interview committee for each position?
The hiring Dean/Director recommends the screening/interview committee to the Campus Director for his approval. Once approved, the H.R. Representative will contact the committee to set up the initial meeting.
