Delaware Technical & Communiy College offeres a variety of Spanish courses for credit:

SPA 133 - Using Beginning
Spanish I

This beginning level language course introduces students to the Spanish Language, its pronunciation, simple grammatical structures, and vocabulary.  Emphasis is on oral, grammatical and writing skills to support communication.

This three credit course is designed for people who have no previous study of the Spanish Language. 

SPA 134 - Using Beginning Spanish II
The continuation of SPA 133, Using Beginning Spanish I, this beginning level language course continues students’ study of the Spanish language, its pronunciation, simple grammatical structures, and vocabulary.  Emphasis is on oral and aural communication.  Grammatical and writing skills to support communication are also developed.  The prerequisite for this course is SPA 133.

SPA 136 - Spanish Communication I
This course introduces students to the Spanish language through communicative interaction.  Students will first develop listening and reading comprehension skills, then the expressive skills of speaking and writing.  They will acquire basic Spanish grammar and vocabulary necessary for daily communication.  The students will increase their  awareness of Hispanic cultures.  

Spanish Communication I is a four credit course that meets for five credit hours per week.  The credits for this class are transferable to the University of Delaware as SPAN 105 for the Delaware Tech Connected Degree Program and Associate of Arts Program. 

This Spanish Course is designed for students who already possess a rudimentary knowledge of the Spanish Language.  If the students have never taken a Spanish course before, it is suggested that they begin with SPA 133, Using Beginning Spanish, before taking SPA 136. 

SPA 137 - Spanish Communication II
The second course in the sequence, Spanish Communication II students develop the ability to describe events in the past and future.  Coursework emphasizes the development of language skills which allow students to communicate with native speakers.

SPA 138 - Spanish Communication III
The final course in the sequence, Spanish Communication III, students will strengthen their ability to describe present, past, and future events.  Complex language structures such as the subjunctive are introduced.  Development of oral and listening comprehension skills is a major focus of the course.
