Early Childhood Education Do you like to work with children as young as infants and toddlers or as old as 8 years of age? The Early Childhood program is designed to educate early childhood professionals in curriculum development and implementation, classroom management, and working with parents, the community and community resources.
The Early Childhood Certificate has 7 college courses for a total of 25 credits. The courses in this certificate meet the DELCARE coursework licensing requirements for the Early Childhood Curriculum Coordinator and Early Childhood Teacher for Early Care and Education and School-Age Centers. PLEASE NOTE: It is in the student’s best interest to verify these requirements with his/her employer or the Delaware Office of Child Care Licensing, Division of Family Services, Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families. The Early Childhood Studies Diploma has 12 college courses for a total of 26 credits. The courses in this diploma meet the DELCARE coursework licensing requirements for the Early Childhood Curriculum Coordinator and Early Childhood Teacher for Early Care and Education and School-Age Centers. The Early Childhood Development Associate Degree The primary focus of this degree is to provide students the necessary coursework and practical experiences to go directly into the workforce in a child care facility or to open their own facility; however, students may transfer to continue their education after completing this degree, The courses in this degree meet the DELCARE coursework licensing requirements for the Early Childhood Administrators, Early Childhood Curriculum Coordinator and Early Childhood Teacher for Early Care and Education and School-Age Centers. The Birth to Second Grade Associate Degree Students may transfer to continue their education after completing this degree. There are connected degrees with Delaware State University, University of Delaware or Wilmington University, so graduates can transfer seamlessly as juniors to these three universities. With a Bachelors degree students will be certified to teach birth to second grade. Graduates may also go directly into the workforce in a child care facility or preschool. The courses in this degree meet the DELCARE coursework licensing requirements for the Early Childhood Administrators, Early Childhood Curriculum Coordinator and Early Childhood Teacher for Early Care and Education and School-Age Centers.
The Early Childhood Education Director Certificate is for the student who has completed the Associate Degree in either Early Childhood Development or Birth to Second Grade. There are four courses in this certificate and the courses are offered online. The courses are Program Administration, Operational Management, Personnel Management and Fiscal Management. The Connected Degree programs offer clear and economical pathways to high quality educational attainment. The articulation agreements enable a graduate to transfer to the senior institution as a junior, provided the required courses have been completed and the appropriate CUM GPA has been achieved as required by the receiving institution. The student must apply to the senior institution and complete all required admission processes. At present Delaware Tech has connected degrees with Delaware State University, University of Delaware and Wilmington University.
