Lacrosse Player Named All American

Eddie HeckmanAll American - Delaware Tech Terry Campus men's lacrosse player Eddie
Heckman was named to the 2010 National Junior College Athletic
Association Academic All-American Team. Heckman, a midfield player from
DelCastle High School, earned the honor based on his Grade Point Average
as well as his talents on the lacrosse field.

"Eddie has been a two-year starter for us and epitomizes the type of
student athletes that play for Delaware Tech," said Athletic Director
and Lacrosse Coach John Coveleski. "This is the first time in the
history of the program that an athlete has been recognized as an
Academic All-American for two years in a row. He sets the standards for
other athletes to follow."

Last year, Heckman was one of eight Delaware Tech players to earn the NJCAA Coaches Association Academic Excellence All-American Team honors in 2009. The Delaware Tech team earned more academic awards than any other NJCAA lacrosse program in the country. Heckman plans to attend West Chester University in West Chester, PA in
the fall.

Lacrosse Players Named All-Region!

Lacrosse All Region Players!All Region: The National Junior College Athletic Association recently named two Delaware Technical & Community College Terry Campus men’s lacrosse players to the 2010 All-Region team. Ryan Gray of Middletown High School and Brynn Weidenmann of William Penn High School both earned the distinction.

"To have two national level players on one team is an honor," said Athletic Director and Lacrosse Coach John Coveleski. "Ryan is a prolific scorer who holds the team record for most goals in a single game (8), and Brynn, who never missed a game, is the all-time leader in assists at Delaware Tech."

Both players finished their season with national rankings in the NJCAA statistics. Gray finished tied for second in goals (59), sixth in overall points (85) and 25th in assists (26). Weidenmann was sixth in assists (42) and 21st in overall points (59).

"I’m thrilled these players are being recognized," said Vice President and Campus Director Daniel L. Simpson. "These men are great examples of the quality of our students."

Eight Lacrosse Team Members On All American Team

DOVER, DE-Delaware Technical & Community College Terry Campus Men’s Lacrosse team had eight members named to the 2009 National Junior College Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Excellence All American Team. Nominated by coaches based on athletic performance and academic excellence, Delaware Tech had more players named to the team than any other team in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Arie Dinkeloo, Brandywine High School Michael McGuigan, Middletown High School

“This acknowledgement of our students’ academic and athletic abilities showcases the level of talent that Delaware Tech is attracting,” said John Coveleski, Delaware Tech Athletics Director. “I am especially proud that our team has more All Americans than any other team in the country.

” Five of the athletes have continued on to four year Colleges including Washington College, Wesley College and Florida Southern University.

Volleyball Team: 2009 NJCAA XIX Regional Champs

Volleyball photoOn Saturday, October 24, 2009 the women’s volleyball team participated in their first ever Region XIX championship tournament. Their first match was against hosting Lackawanna College. The Hawks defeated Lackawanna by a score of 3-0 to move on to the championship game against Harcum College.

Against Harcum, the Hawks won the first game, lost games two and three, and came back to win games four and five. The final score resulting in a 3-2 championship win for the DTCC Lady Hawks (17-1). A great tournament was played by all and everyone contributed. Two hawks received tournament honors. Shannon Green all-tournament team and Sarah Eberly tournament MVP!

All four athletes are freshman and will be returning next year to the Lady Hawks uniform. Local Dover High School graduates Sarah Eberly and Leslie Siegel, received the honor as well as Dover residents Shannon Green and Tiffany Parry.

NJCAA Volleyball LogoEberly, Green and Parry all earned top 50 spots in NJCAA Division II statistics including hitting efficiency, aces per set, digs per set, blocks and kills. Eberly graced the top ten for kills (#3), digs per set (#5), and aces per set (#8). Siegel was named the All Region Defensive Specialist for her consistent defensive work. “We are thrilled our athletes are being recognized by the NJCAA,” said Kelly Duffy, Delaware Tech Women’s Volleyball Coach. “Each one of them works very hard and is dedicated to the team, they are highly deserving of this award.”

ScottThe Delaware State House of Representatives honored the Delaware Tech Lady Hawks Volleyball team recently for completing a stellar inaugural year. Head Coach Kelly Duffy and Assistant Coach Jessica Poe were with the team at Legislative Hall for the recognition.

Sponsored by Representative Darryl M. Scott, the House of Representatives took time to acknowledge their accomplishments including being the 2009 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 19 Volleyball Champions during their first year as a team. In addition, four members were named to the 2009 NJCAA All Region XIX DII Women’s Volleyball Team.

Local Dover High School graduates Sarah Eberly and Leslie Siegel, received the All-Region honors as well as Dover residents Shannon Green and Tiffany Parry. All four athletes will be returning next year to the Lady Hawks squad.

Men's Soccer Recognition

A sophomore during playThe Men's Soccer Team would like to thank their Sophomores for an amazing season. These players lead the team to the most wins in school history. They also took the team to its first playoff appearance in school history. They ensured now that when ever a team plays the Hawks, they know it is going to be a battle. So the coaching staff wish to thank, Natanael Torrijos, Benny Figgs, Carlos Marin-Landa, Jon Scott, Matt Otricelli, Josh Muncy, Hased Anvari, and Prince Vabosa.

They all played an invaluable part in making this season the best ever in program history. We as the coaching staff will take pride in watching these sophomores go on in play soccer at various NJCAA programs next season. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication both on the field and in the classroom!

Omar JarwanOmar Jarwan was selected to the Region 19 All-Region team. Omar had an amazing freshmen year. He was the most skilled player on the field in every game we played this year. He has a work ethic second to none. He has great vision with the ball, and the ability to put a ball wherever he wants. He raises the skill level of everyone he plays with. As only a freshmen, we look forward to Omar stepping up to a leadership role on our team for next year.
