Health Records Specialist

|
EHR specialist's duties will vary with the size and specialty of the facility in which they may work for. Many can specialize in varying areas or one aspect of the EHR such as entry level coders, encoding within a hospital setting, abstractors and/or coding specialist, HIPPA Compliance Officers, or Health Information Managers (HIM). The duties an electronic health record specialist may perform include, but are not limited to:

Assemble patients' health information to ensure information is complete and accurate; |

Enter data such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures, and treatment into computer; |

Prepare statistical and data analysis for quality improvement |
| * |
Assist with special studies and research for public health records |
| * |
Compile medical care and census data for statistical reports on diseases treated, surgery performed, and the use of hospital beds for clinical audits; |

Manage data backup, retention of records, as well as maintain a variety of health record indexes, storage, and retrieval systems; |
| * |
Work for the National Database Registries as a registrar, contact discharged patients, their families, and physicians to maintain registry with follow-up information, such as quality of life and length of survival of cancer patients; |

work with department managers to review policies and develop new work flows for EHR, coordinate training resources, and provide ongoing end user training; and |
| * |
Assist with daily operation of the office: answering the phone, inputting notes from patients' charts, scheduling appointments, and general reception area duties. |
Students will attend a clinical rotation in a medical practice to enhance the sills obtained in the classroom. Graduates from the CBCS program will sit for a national certification exam from National Healthcare Association (NHA).
330 hour program to include a 90 hour clinical rotation

This training is free to State of Delaware residents if they meet the Department of Labor eligibility requirements. As a condition of acceptance, applicants agree to seek and obtain full-time, training-related employment. Job placement assistance is provided.
