of Delaware Technical & Community College

Preamble
We, the students of the Criminal Justice Organization of Delaware Technical & Community College Terry Campus, in order to provide students with the unique opportunity to work with practitioners in the criminal justice system, support the community and local charities through fundraising efforts, and to provide an enjoyable environment for learning through a full schedule of social and recreational activities hereby establish this Constitution for the students of the Criminal Justice Organization.

Article 1
|
|
|
Name
The organization described herein shall be known as the Criminal Justice Organization (CJO). |

Article 2
|
|
|
Purposes
The Criminal Justice Organizations yearly task focus includes 4 areas:
- Fundraisers to raise money for community service, CJO club initiatives, & club activities
Community Service provide services to the members, campus, & community through various volunteer projects
- CJO Club Initiatives goals of the CJO created at the beginning of each term that are the primary focuses for the upcoming year
- Club Activities social and recreational activities designed to help build camaraderie among the members, help the members begin to network, and give them the opportunity to have hands-on experiences in the criminal justice field

Article 3
|
|
|
Meetings
The Criminal Justice Organization shall meet at least one day each month at a time that is most convenient for the officers, advisor(s), and members and may meet more often than once a month if needed.

Article 4
|
|
|
Membership
Any student at the Terry Campus at Delaware Technical & Community College who is a Criminal Justice major or has an interest in the Criminal Justice field can be a member. There is no fee for membership and members are expected to participate in club meetings and projects as able.

Article 5
|
|
|
Officers
The Criminal Justice Organization shall have the offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, Evening Representative, and Senators (as needed). Duties of the Club Officers will be:
- President
- Preside over and exercise general control over all meetings.
- Execute such administrative paperwork as necessary to insure proper functioning of the CJO.
- Maintain the power to appoint all committees.
- Call special meetings of the CJO when deemed necessary.
- Serve as spokesperson concerning policies or actions adopted by the CJO.
- Maintain an agenda for all CJO Meetings.
- Organize and oversee new officer elections every spring and/or as needed.
- Brief the new president on his/her responsibilities.
- Vice President
- Be responsible for meetings of the CJO in the absence of the president.
- Succeed the president if the president is unable to complete his/her term of office.
- Serve on committees.
- Maintain contact sheets/data base of CJO members.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of all newsletters, flyers, and sign-up sheets.
- Brief the new Vice President on his/her responsibilities.
- Secretary/Treasurer
- Record all proceedings of the CJO.
- Maintain all minutes, documents, and correspondence.
- Supply copies of the minutes to the CJO advisor.
- Record the attendance and participation of CJO members at all events and fundraisers.
- Be responsible for official correspondence of the CJO.
- Make a financial report of the CJO monies at all regularly scheduled meetings.
- Deposit all monies in the CJO account in the business office.
- Insure that no monies are spent unless specifically sanctioned by the CJO officers and the advisor or Department Chair.
- Have the expenditure of funds and remaining balance for the year verified in the business office before the end of the spring semester.
- Brief the new Secretary/Treasurer on his/her duties.
- Succeed the Vice President if the Vice President is unable to complete his/her term of office
- Evening Representative
- Attend all regular CJO meetings.
- Inform the evening students of all business discussed in regular meetings.
- Oversee and direct all Senators from the evening classes.
- Senators
- Attend all regular CJO meetings.
- Ensure that CJO information is presented to the student body in their represented section.
- Represent the opinion of the student body.
- Express the concerns of their represented group at CJO meetings

Article 6
|
|
|
Election of Officers
Officers shall be elected yearly during the end of the spring semester. Members seeking office must be in satisfactory academic standing. Nominations will be taken from the floor for all offices. Election will be by majority vote through secret ballot. Officers will be elected for a term of one year, which shall begin in August. Officers can hold office for up to three terms, provided they are re-elected each year.

Article 7
|

|
Officers Meetings
Officers meetings, as with regular meetings, shall be held at least once a month at a time that is convenient for the officers and advisor(s). All executive officers (not Senators) are required to attend all regularly scheduled officers meetings unless prior approval is received from the advisor(s).

Article 8
|
|
|
Committees
Committees shall be formed to accomplish the tasks of the club. Membership on committees shall be voluntary. At least one officer shall be a member of all committees. A chairperson shall be appointed by the President to convene all committee meetings and ensure the business of the committee is conducted effectively.

Article 9
|
|
|
Finances and Funding
Organizational funds shall be kept in the individual Internal College Account maintained in the Campus Business Office. Withdraws can only be done with signatures from the Secretary/Treasurer, President (or Vice-President acting for President), and an advisor. Deposits will require the signatures of the Secretary/Treasurer (or other officer if the Sec./Tres. is unavailable) and an advisor. Current signature cards of all the officers will be maintained by the College Business Office. The CJO may conduct fundraisers with the approval of the college to raise money for the organization.

Article 10
|
|
|
Amendments
Amendments to this constitution may be proposed in writing and must include signatures of at least three active members in good standing. Provided at least 30 days notice has been given, a proposed amendment can be voted on at any regularly scheduled meeting. In order for the amendment to take effect, a 2/3 vote of the members present will be required.
