New Student Information
Individuals planning to earn an associate degree or diploma (as compared to taking a course or two) must follow a specified procedure to be considered a matriculated, degree-seeking student. The procedure normally takes several weeks. Seeking help with college tuition costs through the Student Financial Aid programs will also take several weeks. All prospective degree or diploma seeking students are encouraged to call for further information.(back)
Procedure for Degree-Seeking Students
Delaware Technical & Community College has an open-door admissions policy limited only by the following criteria: A student must be a high school graduate or the equivalent, or at least 18 years of age and able to benefit from instruction. All applicants should be tested, interviewed and accepted at least 30 days before the beginning of each semester. Applicants for fall admission are encouraged to apply early in the year. Applicants should review their selected program as shown in the College Catalog to determine if there are additional admission requirements related to their specific program of study. These procedures for admission to any campus should be followed:
- Obtain a Social Security number, which will be used as your student identification number.
- Obtain an Application for Admission from the College or your high school counselor, or download a printable version in PDF Format.
- Request that your high school and college transcript be sent immediately to the Admissions Office on the campus to which you are applying. Submit a GED certificate, if appropriate, from the GED center.
- Complete and return the application with a $10 check or money order (nonrefundable) to the Admissions Office on the campus you wish to attend. Checks should be made payable to Delaware Technical & Community College.
- Participate in the Placement Testing Program scheduled for you by the College. A photo ID is required for admission to the Placement Test.
- Make an appointment and meet with a counselor for an admissions interview.
- Receive a letter of acceptance.
- Oversubscribed programs will afford preference to residents of the State of Delaware. (back)
Procedure for Non-Degree Students
Non-degree students are those who desire to register on a part-time basis for various courses for the own enjoyment, professional enhancement, or to transfer towards a degree at another institution. There are some limitations which apply to non-degree student status. Consult a college counselor for details. If you have never taken courses at Delaware Tech, you must submit an Application for Admission to the campus where the course is being offered. (back)
Procedures for Re-Admission
Returning students who left Delaware Tech before completing a degree:
within two years of their last semester of attendance may register for classes during any appropriate registration period.
after an absence of more than two yearsmust make an appointment with an admissions counselor for re-admission to the College before registering. (back)
Early Entry
Delaware Tech college courses are open to high school students who have written permission from their high school. Full college credit is awarded for courses completed successfully.
