As part of the changes approved with the passage of the 1998 Amendments to the Higher Education Act of 1965 is a modification in calculation of federal financial aid earned. These changes only affect those students who receive federal financial aid and withdraw from all classes.
| DATE OF COURSE DROP OR COLLEGE WITHDRAWAL | DTCC* |
| Before 1st day of semester | 100% of tuition and lab and materials fees |
|
On 1st class day through end of the second week |
75% of tuition and lab materials fees |
| After the end of the second week | No refund |
| * Refund calculations for students NOT receiving federal financial aid. | |
Those students who receive federal financial aid, excluding Federal Work-Study, and withdraw from all classes on or before the 60% point of the semester are subject to a reduction in the amount of federal financial aid based on the number of calendar days in attendance during the summer. The ratio between the number of calendar days in attendance and total calendar days in the semester will be used in determining the amount of earned federal financial aid versus the amount to be returned to the federal government.
Regulations are currently being developed and are expected to be issued by the U.S. Department of Education during the last quarter of 1999. Please see your campus Financial Aid Officer for more details.
