The Terry Campus Public Safety Department
The Terry Campus Public Safety Department provides our campus community with a wide range of services through its office located in the Terry Building. The campus Public Safety Department is not a law enforcement or police agency. This means that uniformed Public Safety Officers are not sworn police officers, and they do not possess the power of arrest. Terry Campus Public Safety Officers are empowered with the authority and responsibility to provide immediate assistance with issues involving your safety and security. When needed, local and state police will be called for assistance. The Public Safety Department has developed and maintains a close working relationship with local law enforcement agencies.

You can make a report as follows:
Emergency 1110 - The campus emergency telephone number is 1110. Dialing 1110 on any campus telephone (not including pay telephones) will provide you with immediate Public Safety assistance, access to emergency medical services, and access to local police and state police services. The emergency 1110 line will connect you with the on-duty Public Safety officer who will connect you when you are reporting an emergency or crime in progress to the county Emergency Operations Center located in Dover. Emergency services will be dispatched as needed, and will also dispatch a Public Safety unit to you for assistance.

Note: When necessary, 911 can be dialed directly for a medical or police emergency. If you contact the 911 Emergency Operations Center directly, it is very important to also notify the campus emergency 3333 operator of the emergency taking place. They will dispatch the appropriate campus resources to the scene to assist with the emergency.

Additionally, Ext.1716 has voice mail capabilities which will allow you to make a report twenty-four hours a day. The Public Safety Department can also be contacted from off-campus locations by calling 302-857-1110. Each Reception Center on campus has contact with on-duty Public Safety Officers and can assist you with your security concerns. Other events or problems that impact the quality of your educational environment can also be reported either in person, by telephone, or in writing. Feel free to share your concerns with your instructor or any Terry Campus employee or you can contact Public Safety at 857-1110. "The Safe Campus Program" is a safety initiative sponsored by the Owens Campus Public Safety Department to further our goal of providing a safe campus community for everyone. This program allows you to conveniently report your safety and security concerns or observations to the Public Safety Department for immediate action. Safe Campus Program cards are available at any suggestion box on campus. Write your observations or concerns on the Safe Campus card and place it in the suggestion box and your suggestion will be forwarded to the appropriate department for resolution. If you desire anonymity, you do not have to leave your name.

Delaware Technical & Community College encourages everyone to become an active participant in his/her personal safety. This can be achieved in part by reporting crimes that occur on college property. On the rare occasion that some criminal activity occurs on campus, it should be reported in a timely manner. Every member of the campus community has an obligation to make a report of the crime or criminal activity to Public Safety for investigation. Remember, safety is everyone's responsibility. It is college policy that criminal offenses occurring on college property will be reported to the police for investigation.

  Individual Responsibility
Personal safety while on campus is the result of a partnership between the Public Safety Department and each individual on campus. Delaware Technical & Community College strives to ensure the safety of all individuals within its community. Students and employees, collectively and individually, must take responsibility for their own safety and that of their personal belongings. Simple precautions are the most effective means of maintaining personal security. Each campus of Delaware Technical & Community College provides well-lit parking areas and walkways for your use. They should be used during night hours. Public Safety courtesy escorts are available upon request. All valuable property should be engraved with the owner's driver's license number or other form of identification. Unattended cars should always be locked. When you leave items of value in your car, they should be locked in the trunk. Students should notify campus Public Safety or a college employee of any unusual events or individuals present on campus.
