Kids 'n' Ethics |
| The SIFE team conducted an activity called "Kids 'n' Ethics" for a group of 4th graders at Booker T. Washington Elementary and a group of 6th graders at Lake Forest Elementary. The kids were told a story about choosing what is right and wrong (stealing or working for your income). They are then taught ethical ways of raising money (i.e. starting a business) and the consequences of being unethical (i.e. possible injury). The students were given a pre and post test to measure what they learned . |

Babes 'n' Banking |
| The SIFE team along with representatives from PNC Bank worked with a group of kids at the Delawre Tech Daycare and a group of elementary school students to teach them about saving money. The activity taught the kids the importance of saving money so they can get the things they want. They used the theme "spend some, save some" and gave the children piggy banks so they can begin saving money. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
PEAK |

Students Mentoring In Leadership Expertise (SMILE) DTCC SIFE Team members conducted a two week long program starting on October 18 and ending on October 27, 2004, which taught values, communication and leadership skills to students attending PEAK. PEAK is an alternative high school for troubled teenagers who have no other place to go to school, because of their behavior. These young adults have had trouble in their young lives or have been in trouble because of behavior problems. This is their last chance to go to school and get a good education. The school consists of 50 young adults and a faculty who really cares about them. The program had two components and was targeted at 46 students who were attending PEAK. Throughout our two weeks, the SIFE Team conducted four sessions, each with a different students in order to teach to all students of the school. Today we spent an hour with a group of 10 students from the 12th grade in order to teach values and communication and how people perceive others in different ways. Team building and leadership skill were also taught. To teach values we shared an exercise with them that took their values away after they wrote down on 3x5 cards what values were important to them. In the communication exercise no one was permitted to speak and they had to arrange themselves by birthday without speaking. It went very well and they all figured out to write down their birthday and get in order that way. We used the picture of an old woman and a young woman to see how they perceived what they saw. Most saw the young woman. And then they drew how they perceived themselves and shared with others; who then told them some good qualities they had that they had not listed. For team building we built houses from cards to see how well they worked in groups.. Pre- and post-tests were administered for this component. |
