Funded by the Federal Department of Education, the Student Support Services (SSS) program provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students towards the successful completion of their postsecondary education. The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and facilitate the process of transfer from one level of higher education to the next.
To receive assistance, students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at Delaware Technical & Community College – Terry Campus. Low-income students, students who are first-generation college students and students with disabilities evidencing academic need are eligible to participate in SSS projects. Our funding limits us to serving 200 students, so apply early. If you are unsure if you qualify, stop by or office for an initial assessment.
There is a complex set of qualifications for determining low income. It depends on how many are in your family, whether or not you are a dependent, and your taxable income. Don’t let this criteria prevent you from applying. Come in and we will make the proper determination.
We provide various types of counseling, including academic advisement, personal, transfer and financial aid counseling. We also support students with career planning and exploration opportunities as well as provide other workshops designed to support student success. Finally, we seek to enrich and broaden student perspectives through cultural enrichment opportunities.
We are funded to provide support to 200 students.
SSS is located in the Terry Building, Room 221. Feel Free to call us at (302) 857-1030, as well. You can also email the office at rcraft@dtcc.edu
No – everything in the program is free!
Just drop by the office to pick up an application. Or, give us a call and we'll be glad to send you an application through the mail, e-mail, or fax.
Students can drop in to receive assistance as needed, or they can schedule appointments to meet with our staff. If we are unable to assist, we are able to refer students to professionals in the community who may be able to help.
While we prefer to work with our students personally, face to face, we understand that sometimes scheduling difficulties and other complications may arise. In such cases, we are happy to help our students over the phone or on-line.
The amount of time depends on the needs of individual students. At a minimum we encourage students to meet with their counselor three times per semester. However, we have an open door policy and encourage students to drop by as needed or when circumstances develop and they need to talk.
To the contrary, participation in the SSS program should enhance your academic experience. Appointments with your counselors and other SSS activities are scheduled around your academic schedule in order to avoid any conflict with classes.
Research shows that eligible students, who participate in SSS programs, are more likely to achieve their academic goals. Everyone can use a little help, or a shoulder to lean on every now and then. We are here to provide that support.
We have staff whose primary purpose is to assist with the steps necessary to transfer from Delaware Tech to another college or university. We want to make your academic experience as positive as possible and will do what we can to help.
Once accepted as an SSS student, you can be a part of the program until you graduate or transfer to another school.
