Welcome to the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program (OTA) on the Wilmington Campus. As an OTA student, you will learn to work with people of all ages with physical, developmental, social or emotional problems who need assistance to lead independent, productive and satisfying lives.
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist (OTR), provides clients with specialized activities (occupations) which aid them in mastering the skills necessary to perform daily tasks at home, school and in the community.
Graduates will be able to sit for the National Certification Exam for the Occupational Therapy Assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). A felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the National Certification Exam. After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
The total number of graduates who passed the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification examination as first-time new graduate test takers in 2007–2009 was 22 out of 24, which is a pass rate of 92%. During that 3-year time period, the program had 24 graduates.
