Karen Stevenson, the Instructional Director of the Human Services, Drug and Alcohol Counseling, Gerontology, Early Childhood Education and Social Science Departments, has been with Delaware Technical & Community College since 1976.  As an instructor in Human Services, she taught counseling theories, family dynamics and group process, as well as abnormal and general psychology, sociology, human development, intercultural communications and human communications.

As chairperson of the Human Services Department at Wilmington, Karen spearheaded the development and implementation of the Drug and Alcohol option, the Gerontology Option, and the Early Childhood Education Program, all of which have become statewide programs.

As Instructional Director, Karen has overseen the growth of the ECE program into a new department with its own department chairperson.  During that time Karen also worked to plan and develop the college’s first Child Development Center

Before coming to Delaware Technical & Community College, Karen was in the Communications Department at the University of Delaware where she taught Intercultural and Interpersonal Communications.

Karen also co-founded Interaction Consultants where she ran groups for the visually impaired and aftercare groups for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts.  She also did individual psychotherapy under the supervision of Dr. Yong Shik Shin.

Terry Fisher

Terry, Coordinator of Human Services/Drug and Alcohol Counseling/ Gerontology, holds a Masters Degree in Social Services and a Doctoral Degree in Social Work and Social Research from Bryn Mawr College. He is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional (LCDP) and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Delaware (CADC), as well as a Certified Alcohol Counselor (CAC) Diplomate in Pennsylvania. In addition, he is licensed in Delaware as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). He has worked in a variety of clinical settings in Delaware such as Clinical Director of NET Counseling Center, Assistant Director of SODAT Delaware and in various other State settings including Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families and New Castle County Mental Health. He was an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Widener University, administering and supervising internship students. He has taught at Delaware Technical & Community College for nearly 13 years.

Henry "Skip" is employed at Delaware Technical & Community College as an Internship Coordinator/Instructor in the Human Services/ Social Science Department. He also serves as the Affirmative Action/Sexual Harrassment officer for the Wilmington Campus. He also is employed part-time as a Primary Counselor for substance abuse & EAP clients at PACE Inc. Before his present employment, Skip worked at Pace, Inc, at the Division of Youth Rehabilitative Services, North American Family Institute, Inc., and at Juvenile Probation. He obtained his M.S. in Child Care Administration from NovaUniversity, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Skip is an active member of the American Association of Counseling and Development(AACD) and the Association of Minority Counselors(AMC).

Suzanne Tuthill

Suzanne Tuthill has been with the Human Services Department since 1987. Her responsibilities include teaching and mentoring SOC111, Introductory Sociology; SOC213, Health Care Ethics; HMS228 Family Development and Service Systems. She is also involved in orienting adjunct faculty to the department and to the utilization of Blackboard, the College's instructional platform.Suzanne has served on the United Way Allocations Committee, the ACLU Board of Delaware, state-wide Committee on Welfare Reform, the Delaware Humanities Forum, the New Castle County Ethics committee, and the Regional Health Care Planning Commission for New Castle County. Degrees include a BA in Anthropology, M. Ed. In Social Science, M.A. in Sociology and a Ph.D. in Sociology.

James Villarreal

James Villarreal has been an instructor at Delaware Technical & Community College for the last 15 years teaching  psychology, counseling and social sciences in the Human Services/Social Science Department. He also is an undergraduate adjunct professor (since 1985) teaching psychological testing and measurements in the Behavioral Sciences Department at Wilmington College.

Previous to this, James worked for 11 years for ARBOR, Inc., a market research/education and training company, where he was vice president for staff development and training; and served as director of Cite of Delaware ( the state subsidiary of ARBOR, Inc.), providing job training and social services for various population groups in Delaware.

He obtained his M.Ed. in counselor education / counseling psychology from Temple University in 1979. He is a National Certified Psychologist (NCP), a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor  (CADC). 

James is very active in the community.  He serves on the executive committee and is Secretary of the Board of Directors for Jobs for Delaware Graduates. He is a member of the Governor's  Advisory Council for the Division of Social Services and the Child Support Enforcement Division. He recently completed two 3 year terms as a Delaware Humanities Forum board member.

James has been very active with the DE United Way as a member of the Board of Directors and the Leadership Delaware Board. He was actively engaged as a consultant and trainer for the United Way  MDS  (management development services) section and worked with the Allocations Committee for many years.

Presently, in addition to his membership on the board he conducts  anger management  workshops  for the Delaware Mentor Program at  D. Baylor Women’s Prison.  He also was a faculty member for the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Training Office.
