Resources for Students

In addition to the handouts on the notice board, there are many handouts filed alphabetically in the Writing Center filing cabinets.

The Writing Center is equipped with computer facilities. Students are encouraged to bring their disks so that they may work on their papers with the Coach.

The Grammar Hotline can also be used to answer specific questions related to micro revision.

The Internet offers many helpful web sites that address many student concerns. The following sites are particularly helpful:

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/index2.html This is a service run by Purdue University's On-line Writing Lab (OWL). It offers guidelines for many writing concerns including SWE skills, resumes, and ESL writing.

http://webster.commnet.edu/grammar/index.htm This is a service run by Capital Community Community-Technical College in Hartford, Conn. This page offers advice on grammar and writing, but also has some multiple-choice grammar and punctuation tests that can be done on-line or printed.

This web site is run by New Mexico State University. It offers helpful criteria for evaluating web sites. It also provides a bibliography on evaluating web sites and advice on how to have successful Internet learning experiences.

It offers an extensive site with quizzes, crossword puzzles, web links, and ideas for teachers. It is part of Interesting Things for ESL Students in http://manythings.org/.

The University Writing Center maintained by Texas Tech University offers a wide range of links to online writing sources, grammar and punctuation sites, and rhetorical and critical thinking worksheets.
