Jane P. Wilkie Chosen for Fund for Women’s Top Award
WILMINGTON - Congratulations to Ms. Jane P. Wilkie! The Fund for Women honored Jane - a community activist, volunteer, Fund for Women founder - on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, with the Spirit of Women’s Philanthropy in Delaware award. Jane, a retired instructor from the Language and Culture department of the Wilmington Campus of Delaware Tech, is a longtime community friend and an advocate for international students. Many immigrants to Delaware owe their skills in English and immersion in our culture to classes they took with Jane during her 29 years of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL).
For 17 years now, the Fund for Women has been making a difference in the lives of women and girls in Delaware. Those who have been fortunate in their lives and livelihoods are helping other women and girls overcome the many barriers that may stand in their way to success. Through the power of their collective giving, the Fund for Women has the ability to make a greater impact. Fund for Women Founders also benefit from the social and networking opportunities of being part of this dynamic group; building professional connections, strengthening community ties and helping them become philanthropic leaders.
Jane established the Jane P. Wilkie Endowment for International Student Scholarships at Delaware Tech in 2007. Pictured here with Jane at the Fund for Women’s award breakfast is Ms. Ojong Bate of Cameroon. Ojong is majoring in Bio-Technology at the Stanton Campus and is a three-time recipient of Jane’s scholarship. Ojong says that hearing all of Jane’s contributions to her community has been an inspiration and she plans to follow in Jane’s footsteps.
