Message to New Students: Finish!
Delaware Tech welcomed new students who will be starting classes this fall. The first-year students – many of whom were accompanied by family members – met with administrators, department chairs and faculty. All students heard a message of encouragement from Delaware Tech President, Dr. Orlando J. George, Jr.
Leaving the podium and walking out into the audience, Dr. George shared with the students and their families that a college education is one of the most important decisions they will make in their lives; but it’s not the starting, it’s the finishing that matters. Over the past 17 years, he has estimated that he has shaken hands with thousands of graduates, and Dr. George told the new students that he expects to shake each of their hands in May of 2014.
"Believe in yourself and your ability to work toward your goals," Dr. George told the students. "You can succeed at Delaware Tech!"
Students were told that they were not alone on their educational path toward graduation. They were reminded to seek out their advisors and utilize the many services provided to them, including tutoring, advisement and career counseling.
Governor Markell spoke at the Terry Campus new student welcome, he said that Delaware is fortunate to have Delaware Tech – an award-winning college with high quality programs and outstanding faculty - where students are taught the skills that are valued in today’s marketplace. He told students that his hope is to see each of them graduate and fill a job in Delaware.
