Senator Tom Carper Visits Innovation and Technology Center
United States Senator Tom Carper paid a visit to Delaware Tech’s Innovation and Technology Center (ITC) in New Castle County, DE, on September 24, 2012. The ITC is a 20,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that teaches programs such as HVACR, welding, manufacturing technologies and OSHA safety. Training utilizes a range of learning systems from hands-on to e-learning laboratories to develop job-ready skill sets. Students put theory to practice in classrooms built to mirror the real-world. Senator Carper visited with students in several classes, including high school students from the Red Clay Consolidated School District who are part of an innovative "Construction and Renovation Certificate Program". Piloted earlier this year, the program allows students to obtain real life job skills and their high school diploma simultaneously (for more on the Construction and Renovation Certificate Program).
